The first round of the Vegas 16 tourney pins two teams from different parts of the country as the UCSB Gauchos come in from the west coast to meet with the Northern Illinois Huskies from the east coast in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Gauchos reside out of the Big West and finished 4th, 2 games back in the standings. The Huskies, out of the MAC, took 3rd in the MAC West, 1.0 game behind the leaders.

Led by Michael Bryson, the Gauchos offense averages about 71 points per game. Bryson contributes 18.4 of those per game, but also grabs 6.4 rebounds to go along with 2.5 assists per game. Look for him to be the ignitor today for the Gauchos if they hope to grab a first round win.
NIU Huskies
The Huskies problem this season has been consistency.
They built far too many losing streaks, rather than winning streaks on the year, causing them to have a tough seed heading into the MAC tourney. While they sat 3rd, just 1 game back in the West of two teams, the Huskies sat behind the entire East side, really screwing things up for them.
Northern Illinois did manage to grab a win in the opening round of the MAC tourney, as they bounced Western Michigan 56-50 in a game where their defense was absolutely stellar. The Huskies concede 69.2 points per game, so all things considered that was one of their most impressive displays on the year.

NIU will be playing just their 2nd game on a neutral court this year, but 2nd in a row. The first one didn’t pan out so well as they were bounced 79-62 to the Ohio Bobcats at Quicken Loans Arena in the MAC Tourney.
