It is no surprise to see Monmouth at the top of the MAAC. They are the conference’s best team and looking to finish strong.
Hitting the road in conference play is never easy and Rider is decent, they are in the middle of the pack in the MAAC.
Monmouth’s focus will be on getting the automatic bid so there is not much pressure on them…yet.
The Hawks have grabbed some attention in the past but this season has been more quiet. Their best game may have been a loss, in OT, to a pretty good South Carolina team.
This is a revenge spot as Rider got a win over the Hawks in their season opener, another OT game.
Justin Robinson is only 5’8″ but he is the “biggest” player in the conference as the leading scorer on the top team. He averages 19ppg and has scored 20 or more in 7 straight.
The Hawks guard oriented attack has Micah Seaborn as the second leading scorer at 15ppg but he is suffering from a knee injury and might not play in this one.
He scored 17 the last time these teams played.
Chris Brady gives the Hawks some beef inside. He is not much of a scorer but rebounds well and can stay in the game because he makes his free throws.
Monmouth scores the ball – 80ppg – but their fan fare the last couple of seasons might have made this group somewhat overrated. Their ATS numbers this season are nothing special, 8-11-1.
Rider is a pretty mediocre to poor group right now. The best they can hope for is to build some momentum to try and steal the league’s autobid.
The best thing this group has going for it is balance. Five players average between 10 and 13 points per game with Jimmie Taylor at the top of that group.
Khalil Thomas is a classic undersized, but productive 4. He is close to 10 boards per game at just 6’7″.
The Broncs scored a season high 93 points in their OT win against Monmouth. The key number in that one is that they outrebounded the Hawks by 9. Stevie Jordan led the team with 22 points but has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules and might not play in this one.
Rider should have some confidence from their recent performance against Monmouth but they are not in great form right now.
CBB Betting Trends:
- RID are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
- Under is 11-5 in RID last 16 games as an underdog.
- Under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.
Free Monmouth Hawks vs. Rider Broncs NCAAB Prediction:
The Hawks are a decided favourite in this one. It feels like a lot of chalk for the visitors though.
I immediately looked to Rider to see if I could make the case. It is hard because they are not in fine form at the moment.
4* Free CBB Betting Pick: Monmouth -9
Look for a slow and steady win in double digits by the Hawks. They want to prove they are the better team by a nice margin.
NCAAB Free Score Prediction: Monmouth 87 – Rider 74
