It would have been fun to see what Porter Moser could’ve done in the NCAA Tournament in his first year with Oklahoma, but the Sooners just missed out on the ‘Big Dance’ and instead have to settle for a #1 seed in the NIT.
Missouri State went 23-10 this season, eager to play in the postseason for the first time since 2014’s College Basketball Invitational berth. The Bears lost 79-78 in OT to Drake in the semis of the MVC conference tournament to end any chances of an NCAA slot for the first time since 1999.

The first thing that sticks out ahead of Tuesday night’s game is a huge strength of schedule discrepancy between these two teams. OU had the 4th toughest adjusted SOS in the country playing in the Big 12, Missouri State was 130th.
Quality of opponents aside, the Bears did put up some solid offensive numbers during the regular season ranking 35th in the nation in points/game (77.8) and 17th in field goal percentage (48.5%).
Missouri State does have a couple top notch scorers that can keep this game close. Isiaih Mosley had 27 in the loss to Drake and 33 in a win over Bradley at the end of February. Gaige Prim has gone for 20+ in 7 of the last 10.
Oklahoma Sooners
Is Oklahoma going to suffer a letdown in this game after having aspirations for an NCAA Tournament berth? The Sooners were part of the ‘First 4 Out’ second behind only Dayton, even though they were 30th overall in KenPom Rankings.
The Sooners did fight for their postseason lives, upsetting Baylor 72-67 in the 1st round of the Big 12 Tournament and then barely falling 56-55 to #12 Texas Tech in the semi-finals. Many thought that showing would have been good enough to punch a ticket at least to the First Four, but the Sooners kind of got the short end of the stick.
If OU can channel their anger from getting shafted for the Big Dance, they’re a dangerous team in this tournament especially in Norman where they have gone 11-5 this season.
Oklahoma is built for a tournament, with Moser taking little known Loyola-Chicago to a Final 4 and a Sweet 16 over his last 4 seasons and with the Groves brothers (Tanner and Jacob) nearly leading Eastern Washington to an upset of Kansas in last year’s NCAAs.
