Illinois has been playing better lately but they’ve got a tall task ahead of them when Michigan State visits State Farm Arena on Tuesday night. The Spartans come into this game angry as they’ve dropped two in a row, causing Tom Izzo’s team to slide to 11th in the national polls. MSU has covered in 4 of 5 but is their time up in this matchup?
Michigan State Spartans
Michigan State is far from a runaway victor in Tuesday’s game. That’s because in their last outing the Spartans were -13.5 favorites at home vs. Indiana but ended up losing in OT 75-79. Couple that with a 10 point loss to an, albeit, pretty solid Purdue team and it’s evident that the Spartans are going through a few issues right now.
Of course Illinois is going to be in trouble if the Michigan State team from two weeks prior shows up. Prior to the Purdue loss the Spartans had won 18 of 19. MSU also won 87-74 in Champaign last season and dominated in an 81-61 victory over the Illini in East Lansing.
Illinois Fighting Illini
Tuesday’s line of Illinois +10 could almost be higher but it’s a nod to the better basketball that Brad Underwood’s team has been playing as of late. The Illini got a solid win over Nebraska on Saturday and a week prior an upset over Maryland in New York City. Illinois has had some hiccups along the way but they can’t be overlooked.
Illinois might not have the talent to win Tuesday’s game outright, but they do have some playmakers that can at least threaten Michigan State. Trent Frazier shot 10-14 from the field (5-9 from three) vs. Minnesota and Ayo Dosunmu is a potential NBA draft candidate according to some scouts.
CBB Betting Trends:

Free Michigan State Spartans vs. Illinois Fighting Illini NCAAB Prediction:
If MSU was in a complacency game then Illinois might have the chance to sneak in and get an upset. As it stands however, Michigan State has dropped two in a row and needs to get back on the winning track. They do that, and do it with ease Tuesday in Champaign.
