Maryland Terrapins
I guess you could say the Terps survived their first round contest against South Dakota State. In typical fashion they left you wanting more.
Be that as it may if the game finally unlocked Jake Layman this team could be a dangerous out for the next two weeks. The senior scored 27 points to lead the team and makes it that much more versatile.
On the flip side it was not a good showing against SDSU that they were fouling like they did. This team has one of the best lineup in America but it not very deep.
Jared Nickens is the only consistent threat off the bench and he had 14 points.
Melo Trimble might have scored 19 points but he did not really have a great game.
This team has not been clicking on all cylinders much this season.
Hawaii Rainbow Warriors
The Warriors are a nice story. They grabbed the auto bid out of the Big West and promptly beat Cal to earn their first ever tournament victory. Good for them.
In beating Cal they showed they can go toe to toe with a Power 5 team with size and skill. Maryland will be another stiff test but they should have confidence.
Against the Bears the Warriors got the usual out of top scorer Stefan Jankovic.
On a per minute basis he is one of the most productive players in America but he has to learn how to keep himself on the game. He has legit size and can test Maryland inside – and also step out.
Point guard Roderick Bobbitt will be key against the Terps. He played all 40 minutes against the Bears and is the kind of steady hand that keeps the team going forward.
