Iowa Hawkeyes
At various times this season Iowa has looked great and terrible. They advanced by beating a tough Temple team in overtime so I guess they are pretty resilient too.
This Iowa team was playing over its head earlier in the season but they will get a chance to show it was no fluke when they take on Villanova.
The Hawkeyes are a very experienced group led by forward Jared Uthoff. Uthoff may not look like much when he steps on the floor but he is one of the smoother and more versatile offensive players in the college game.
Iowa is not going to backdown but I don’t see them being able to keep up with the athleticism of the Wildcats who are so deep on the wings.
Villanova Wildcats
Villanova had little trouble with their opening round game, but that is what is supposed to happen when you are #2 seed – isn’t it?
The Wildcats are not the deepest squad in the nation but their top five players are pretty darn good. They got nice contributions from their guys in the opener which is exactly what you want to do.
Daniel Ochefu was the top scorer and I love this team when he is involved. You don’t have to look for him a crazy amount as he can be really active, and efficient too – 7 for 9 with 10 boards.
Villanova has one of the best backcourts in the nation and that is going to be the difference in this one I think. They are strong with a mix of skills and a lot of experience.
