It’ll be West Coast showdown Tuesday night when the #1 seed Gonzaga Bulldogs collide with the #6 seed USC Trojans in the East Region Elite Eight matchup from Lucas Oil Stadium. Both clubs are coming in off dominating performances last round have looked like a title contenders all tournament.
Gonzaga has been rolling teams every round and are proving why they were the majority selection to win it all this year. The Bulldogs have shown no weaknesses thus far but will be tested by the Trojans size inside.
USC has looked dominant as well and are definitely showing the committee they were way off with seeding the Trojans #6. Its a shame they were placed in Gonzaga’s bracket as this game Tuesday very well could have been a championship matchup.
The winner will move on to face either #1 Michigan or #11 UCLA next weekend for a shot in the National Championship.

Gonzaga Bulldogs
Gonzaga is unquestionably the best team in the tournament and has been the best team all year. The Bulldogs left no doubt with #5 Creighton in the Sweet Sixteen winning 83-65 and never trailing at any point. This team is simply playing a different style of game than everyone else at this point and are serious favorites to win it all.
Their average margin of victory this season is 23.6 points and they lead the nation with an average of 92.1 points scored per game. They’re also 1st in field-goal percentage, 3rd in assists per game and 8th in free throws made per game.
1st team All-American Corey Kispert returned to Gonzaga this year and appears to have been the right decision. He is leading the #1 team in the country with 19.2 points per game and is shooting an insane 45.8% from 3 point range. Drew Timme is another tremendous player and averages 18.8 points and 7.3 rebounds. Freshman All-American Jalen Suggs has done a great job at point for the Bulldogs and averages 14.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists (team best), and 2.0 steals (team best).
USC Trojans
The #6 USC Trojans are one of those teams nobody wants to play against in this tournament. The Trojans have cruised through all of their games prior to this matchup, most recently in the style of an 82-68 victory over fellow PAC-12 foe Oregon. USC is looking to reach their first Final Four since 1954, a 67 year drought.
USC was up by 15 points at halftime and kept pace with Oregon in the second half, never giving the Ducks a chance to shrink the deficit. Isaiah White scored a team high 22 points and Tahj Eaddy added 20 of his own.
The Trojans have won 6 out of their last 7 games with the only blemish in that span coming in the PAC-12 tournament in a narrow defeat against #5 seed Colorado who have also advanced to the second round.
Evan Mobley is one of the most talented players in the country and will be a top-three pick in this year’s NBA draft. The seven-foot freshman forward earned the double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday’s winning effort and has scored 17 or more points in three straight performances. Mobley is sporting an average of 16.8 PPG and 8.7 RPG.

Gonzaga is the best team in the tournament, there’s no question. However, giving this USC team 9 points is disrespectful. The Trojans have beat down everyone they’ve faced so far and a serious threat to the Bulldogs interiorly. The Mobley brothers are talented and won’t let Drew Timme do what he’s done to other teams so far.
The Bulldogs are the closest product to an NBA equivalency with their passing and rhythm and I expect that to be the difference in some critical moments. They always seem to have an answer to whatever’s thrown at them and don’t shrink under the bright lights. I expect Gonzaga to win and continue their perfect season but I think USC will certainly do enough to keep this game in the single digits.
