Gonzaga Bulldogs
The first week of the tournament was great for the Gonzaga Bulldogs who ran the Seton Hall Pirates out of the arena in the first round and completely annihilated the Utah Utes in the second round.
The Bulldogs felt right at home in the high elevation of the Rocky Mountains in Denver, Colorado. We’ll see if they’ll be able to carry over that momentum to Chicago against the Orangemen of Syracuse.
Gonzaga put up an impressive showing in taking apart the Utah Utes as they held the Utes to 59 points while Gonzaga scored 82 points.
It was an all-world performance as Gonzaga could do no wrong. Gonzaga has taken their 35th ranked offense and defense into the tournament and have been highly impressive.
It will be interesting to see what kind of plan Syracuse comes up with to shut down the two headed monster in Domantas Sabonis and Kyle Wiltjer.
Sabonis is coming off an impressive double-double where he scored 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. He is going to be a headache for the Orangemen.
Syracuse Orange
The Gonzaga Bulldogs have looked impressive in their first two games, but so have the Syracuse Orange.
Syracuse disposed of the Dayton Flyers and the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in impressive fashion.
The Orange haven’t done anything unusual, they’ve taken their 27th ranked defense and shut down their two opponents holding them to 51 and 50 points, respectively.
I don’t expect Syracuse to shutdown Gonzaga like that, but I do believe they will hold Gonzaga to a respectable number and it will be a close, low scoring game.
Michael Gbinije is the player to watch for Syracuse as he is the big man in the middle where he has averaged 17 points per game this season and is coming off a 23 point performance versus the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.

When you have two teams that are pretty similar and there isn’t much separating the two, you almost always have to take the points and in this case we are getting 5 points on Syracuse.
That is a very nice number and I’ll be happy to take that.

This is a coin flip game where I can see either team winning. However, I really like the 5 points that Syracuse is getting, I’ll take the points and the under might not be a bad play either.
