The Duke Blue Devils, winners of three straight, travel to Indiana to take on Notre Dame in an ACC showdown. Notre Dame has also hit its stride, winning four straight games heading into Monday night’s showdown.
Duke Blue Devils
The 7th ranked Blue Devils may be hitting their stride as the calendar turns to February and the Big Dance looms. Duke sits at 17-3 and has won three straight games. On Saturday, Duke survived an emotional effort by the Louisville Cardinals, playing for a new coach, and took the game over in the second half for a 74-65 win.
It was a game of runs for the Blue Devils on Saturday afternoon. Duke led by as many as 16 points in the first half before the Cardinals stormed back to tie the game at 60 with under 10 minutes to go in the second half. Duke’s defense, led by Mark Williams, took the game over from there. Williams, who finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds, blocked two shots during a 12-0 run to help the Blue Devils pull away for the win
Freshman star Paolo Banchero also chipped in with a block during the run and also had a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. AJ Griffin did the heavy lifting in the points department with 22 points including 5-of-5 from 3pt range.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Notre Dame has picked a good time to get hot in conference play. The Irish have won four straight games, albeit all against very winnable opponents, and are taking care of business in games they need to win. Monday night will be a major test for Notre Dame and a major opportunity to get its name in the post-season conversation.
Notre Dame took care of business on Saturday, dropping the struggling Virginia Cavaliers, 69-65. The Irish are now 9-0 at home on the season. The team played a balanced game led by 16 points each by Nate Laszewski and Dane Goodwin. In addition, Paul Atkinson Jr. and Blake Wesley chipped in with 14 points.
Notre Dame has a point differential of +5 this season. They are shooting 46% from the field and have drilled 178 3pt field goals. The Irish will not hurt themselves, turning the ball over just 10 times per contest. A major concern against the lengthy Blue Devils will be on the glass. Notre Dame is averaging just over 34 rebounds per game and may struggle to keep Williams and Banchero from dominating the interior.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Duke is 7-2 SU in their last 9 games.
- Duke is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games on the road.
- Notre Dame is 6-0 SU in their last 6 games at home.
- Notre Dame is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games at home
4* Free Duke vs. Notre Dame CBB Betting Pick: Duke ATS
The Blue Devils appear to be hitting their stride at the perfect time of year. Coach K has been around long enough to know how important it is to be playing well this time of year. In the matchup with the Irish, I see far too many plusses on Duke’s side to worry too much about a relatively small spread in this matchup.
Duke should dominate the interior, has ample 3-point shooters and can harass Notre Dame into difficult shots. For me, while I respect Notre Dame’s 9-0 start at home, I can’t get past how small a margin of error the team has. That works fine for the likes of Virginia at home but not for a team like Duke with a seasoned coach that can make adjustments on the fly.
I expect a very tightly contested game into halftime and Duke to pull away in the second half by utilizing their size and talent advantage.
