Tuesday night ACC action will see the Duke Blue Devils take on the Boston College Eagles. These teams met on New Years Eve at Cameron Indoor and the Blue Devils won this game 88-49. This time around Boston College will look to put up some kind of fight in front of their home fans.
Also, note that Duke has won nine of the last ten meetings.
Duke Blue Devils
The Blue Devils are locked in right now, having won three-games in a row since their two-game losing streak in the middle of January. They now sit at 8-2 in the ACC standings, tied with Florida State for second place. Duke most recently beat Syracuse 97-88 this past weekend. Having already beat the Eagles, Duke should not have much of an issue, although playing on the road is never as easy as it may seem.
The offense for this Duke team is clearly one of the best in the country, averaging 83.4 points per game. That is in fact the 2nd best scoring offense in all of college basketball. They also are a top 10 shooting team, averaging 48.9% from the field.
Duke is led by Vernon Carey Jr, who averages 17.8 points per game and 8.9 rebounds per game. Not far behind him is Trey Jones. Jones is the floor general for this team and is averaging 15 points per game and a team leading 6.8 assists per game. Specifically, these are the two guys that need to have a good game for Duke to continue rolling over their opponents.

Defensively, this Duke team is very good, although they have had their struggles on the road. Overall, they are allowing 65.2 points per game. However, this number increases to 71.8 in their away games. Even in the last five games overall, the Blue Devils are allowing 74.4 points per game.
Taking the home crowd out of this game is going to be a huge factor to Duke’s success. If they can settle in early, I look for the defense to dominate an inferior opponent.
Boston College Eagles
The Eagles are going through a rough stretch right now, having playing Louisville, North Carolina and now Duke in their last three games. They were blown out by the Cardinals on their home floor, but then over the weekend, they went to Chapel Hill an upset the Tar Heels as a 12.5-point underdog. Off the back of that game, they will look for an even bigger upset versus Duke (a team they have had zero success against recently).
Offensively, the Eagles might be one of the worst teams in the entire country. They are averaging just 64.8 points per game. Usually we see a notable increase in points scored at home compared to on the road, but for Boston College, they only average 66.6 points in front of their fans.
Furthermore, the Eagles top scoring threat this season only averages 12.8 points per game. That being Derryck Thornton. Right behind him is Jay Heath, who averages 12.4 points per game. Other than that, the Eagles are not much of a scoring threat.
Defensively, the Eagles allow 68.4 points per game. This is at best middle of the pack compared to the rest of the country.
Last time they faced the Blue Devils, they allowed 88 points and I am not so sure they can do a better job this time. I look for this defense to get overwhelmed by the talent of Duke early in this game and for the score to reflect that by the end of the game.
CBB Betting Trends:
- DUKE are 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings.
- Over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.
Free Duke Blue Devils vs. Boston College Eagles NCAAB Prediction:
There is no way I can pick against Duke in this game, so I love for the Blue Devils to get the win. However, Duke’s defense on the road has not been stellar, so I like the over to be my free pick.
