A pair of 13 – 7 Big East opponents square off on Friday night at the Pru and the Pirates have come out as early 6-point favorites against the visiting Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays are coming off a big upset win over the UConn Huskies last time out and they needed that win after two straight losses to Butler and Xavier. At 5 – 4 in Big East play, the Jays are 6th in the conference standings just above the Pirates who sit in the 7th position right behind them.
Seton Hall were also losers of two straight games before their recent win over Georgetown last time out on the road, 70 – 63. Tray Jackson matched his career-high with 21 points in the winning effort over the Hoyas but this Pirate program is still only 4 – 6 in Big East play.
Creighton Blue Jays
As you may or not be aware, I went to UConn and follow this team as closely as anyone you will meet. I analyze every game and I usually know what to expect when it comes to Huskies games so those +14.5 points the Jays were getting were deep in my pocket. You cannot disrespect this program that much and once again I see +6.5 points with Creighton tonight.
In case you haven’t looked ahead yet, the final two games of the season are against UConn and this same Pirate program to wrap up the regular season festivities. The Jays already know they need to finish the season strong and now they get two cracks to take down Seton Hall.
Did I mention we’re getting +6.5 points with the Jays yet? Oh, okay good.
Ryan Hawkins has stormed onto the Big East hoops scene and is now this team’s leading scorer averaging 13.1 PPG. The transfer from Northwest Missouri State wants to leave a lasting impression in his final season as a collegiate athlete. If you don’t know what he did with the Bearcats you should look at his final two years there as he averaged over 22 PPG.
Let’s just say that the Jays struck gold when they decided to let the dude sport a #44 Creighton jersey to finish his career.
Ryan Kalkbrenner is questionable to go tonight and that might take the Jays third-leading scorer off the court. The 11 points can be made up with a big night from a bench player, but his 7 boards a night sure do come in handy when he is out there. The 7-1 sophomore only scored 4 points against UConn before leaving the game on a bum ankle.
Seton Hall Pirates
Tray Jackson came out of nowhere to produce a massive 21-point effort to lead the Pirates to a win over Georgetown last time out. Jackson puts up about 7 points a night but he had a career night just when this team needed someone to provide a lift. Seton Hall was back at 3 – 6 in Big East play before the win over the Hoyas and things could have started to really go downhill with another loss for this team in that spot. At least now this team has a little confidence back and they are in Newark to boot.
So, we are all still hoping Bryce Aiken gets back to the court soon. His concussion has led to him missing the last 3 games as he deals with lingering issues. Head stuff can be so delicate and every single circumstance is different from the other. Again, I just hope the dude makes it back soon.
Anyway, the Pirates are 8 – 3 at home and this team puts up 76 PPG which is good for a 72nd ranking in the country. The Hall defense has held their own for the most part as well seeing that they rank 41st holding opponents to a 40.1% from the floor.
Jared Rhoden had a 14-point night in the win over the Hoyas which is about what we are used to seeing from him on a nightly basis. Rhoden finds his way to 15.5 PPG and he is just going to get his no matter the defense in front of him.
This bench did provide 14 points from 3 guys but we know this team is thin with their depth and foul trouble could make it a long night even at home.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Bluejays are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Friday games.
- Pirates are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
- Pirates are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games.
- Pirates are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
Free Creighton Blue Jays vs. Seton Hall Pirates NCAAB Betting Prediction:
If 137 points are all the line setters are asking me to put up, then I will oblige them with a play on this total to go over the number. I can see a 72 – 70 type of game playing out in Newark and then I won’t need to concern myself with who wins or loses but I do see a cover coming from this underdog on the road. I do think the Pirates will find a way to win but the total is where I think the money is to be found.
