A pair of at large teams get set for battle as the Butler Bulldogs and Texas Tech Red Raiders go at it.
The Bulldogs had the schedule and quality wins to find themselves in March for a long time. Texas Tech on the other hand, needed a late season push to add some quality wins on their resume. They got that thanks to a very good conference and now find themselves as an 8 seed.

The Bulldogs certainly had the resume to get in a while back, but an early exit in the Big East Tournament leaves this team with little momentum coming into this one.
Butler finished 5th in the regular season in a very tough conference and had wins against Cincinnati and Purdue under their belts in non conference play that really solidified themselves into March.
However, Butler looked very sluggish in their exiting game of the Big East tourney as they fell to Providence 74-60 in a game where the offense just wasn’t on. That’s the problem with this Butler team, if they don’t hit their three pointers, they turn in games like that one.

Butler was one of the best offensive teams though, as they averaged 80.6 points per game. That ranked 22nd in the nation, as this team was in fact one of the best shooting teams, despite their Big East tourney performance.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
The Red Raiders were never really a lock for the tourney.
With just a 19-12 record, the Red Raiders were knocked out of the Big 12 tourney early by a bad TCU team. However, the Red Raiders captured wins against Baylor, Iowa State and Oklahoma in three straight games that really sealed their fate. They did also add a win over Texas earlier in the season to bolster and finish off their resume.

However, that loss to TCU was not pretty by any means. The Red Raiders scored just 62 points, which is well below their season average.
Texas Tech was that team that really did nothing flashy on either side of the ball, but what they did do was step it up when they needed it the most. Especially during that stretch where they beat ISU, Baylor, and Oklahoma. Texas Tech will try to slow this game down and win it by forcing turnovers and limiting the Bulldogs to one shot per possession.
