The nation’s top-ranked team Auburn is in for a test on Tuesday night when the Tigers visit the Arkansas Razorbacks at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Auburn enters at 22-1 (10-0 SEC) after surviving a scare from the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday in a 74-72 road win, failing to cover as a 16-point favorite. Arkansas kept rolling with a 63-55 home win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday, covering as a 6 point favorite while improving to 18-5 (7-3 SEC) on the season.
This all-time series stands at 36-20 in favor of Arkansas, which swept both meetings last season.
Auburn Tigers
It was far from the most convincing performance, but Auburn managed to erase a late deficit at Georgia on Saturday to continue holding the top spot in the AP Poll. Auburn seemed to be in control with a 40-25 lead late in the first half before Georgia battled all the way back to take the lead in the final minute.
K.D. Johnson tied the score with 39 seconds to go before Wendell Green Jr. scored the game-winning layup with five seconds remaining on the clock. Johnson finished with 20 points to lead Auburn, while Walker Kessler piled up 10 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. The Tigers struggled from the field at 39.7% including 6/26 from three-point range, but winning the battle of the boards 39-29 made enough of a difference.
This is the 17th-highest scoring team in college basketball, with Auburn racking up 80.3 points per game on shooting splits of 53.5% from two and 32.4% from three. Auburn’s defense has also been stellar in some facets, allowing 66.4 points per game with opponents shooting 43.4% from two (13th-best nationally) and 31.8% from deep.
Jabari Smith could be the top pick in the next NBA Draft, averaging 15.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.1 blocks per game this season while shooting 40.4% from three as a freshman. Green Jr. adds 12.9 points and 4.8 assists per game after transferring in from Eastern Kentucky, while the North Carolina transfer Kessler piles up 11.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 4.2 blocks (second nationally) per contest on 63.3% shooting from the field.
Arkansas Razorbacks
After looking shaky earlier in the season with a 1-5 skid in mid-December, Arkansas has gotten things turned around in a hurry with eight straight victories including Saturday’s triumph over a capable Mississippi State team. Although the score was tied several times, Arkansas never trailed after the 14:00 mark of the first half.
JD Notae paced Arkansas with 14 points, 4 assists and 2 steals, while Jaylin Williams added 10 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. It wasn’t the prettiest performance for the Arkansas offense, but the defense held Mississippi State to 35.3% from the field including 3/12 from three point range.
The Razorbacks rank 28th nationally with 78.6 points per game on shooting splits of 53% from two and 30.6% from three. Arkansas is right around the national average in scoring defense with 68 points per game allowed on 46.6% shooting from two and 34% from beyond the arc.
J.D Notae is Arkansas’ leader with 18.7 points, 3.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game. Pittsburgh transfer Au’Diese Toney adds 10.8 points per game on 57.9% shooting from the field, while Williams piles up 9.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per contest.

4* Free Auburn vs. Arkansas CBB Betting Prediction: Arkansas ML
Auburn is an excellent team, but its had quite a few shaky results on the road this season and now gets a tough matchup at Bud Walton Arena in what should be one of the most rowdy environments of this college basketball season.
Winning in Fayetteville is hard enough even when Arkansas is struggling, and with the Razorbacks currently standing out as one of the hottest teams in the nation, this could be where Auburn finally slips up.
Auburn has continued to sneak out of road games in narrow fashion against inferior opponents. Arkansas is a much higher quality opponent and swept this series a year ago.
