Arkansas Razorbacks
Arkansas isn’t finishing its season how a team bound for the NCAA Tournament typically does. The Hogs have lost five in a row: at South Carolina in a game that wasn’t close, at Mizzou in a game that was close, vs. Mississippi and at Auburn in games that weren’t close, and then vs. Texas A&M by seven over the weekend.

Daniel Gafford, Arkansas’ sophomore star, went an efficient 9-for-13 on Saturday for 23 points and 13 rebounds. He’s shooting over 66 percent from the field but isn’t without flaws. He makes just 59.5 percent of his charities and turns it over three times as often as he assists on teammates’ baskets.
Head Coach Mike Anderson needs to find more shooters to put around the 6’11” big man who can’t yet shoot from outside. Isaiah Joe is a start; the freshman has made nearly 42 percent of his 8.3 three-point attempts per game. The drop-off after Joe is significant, however.
Kentucky Wildcats
Kentucky dropped Auburn over the weekend at Rupp Arena, 80–53. PJ Washington scored a game-high 24 points and Keldon Johnson ripped down 17 rebounds without Reid Travis in the lineup for the first time this season.
Travis, a fifth-year senior who John Calipari dubbed “the difference” in Kentucky’s win over Tennessee two weekends back, hurt his knee against Mizzou and was tentatively diagnosed to miss two weeks.

Prior to the Auburn game, though, Calipari said it could be longer. Freshman EJ Montgomery stepped into the starting lineup and scored six points with seven rebounds, three blocks, and two steals in 23 minutes.
Montgomery is more talented and athletic than Travis, who is stronger, tougher and more experienced. The injury doesn’t necessarily make Kentucky any worse at any one moment on the floor but it takes away experience and depth, which will hurt in the NCAA Tournament, if Travis isn’t available.
