Akron will miss the NCAA Tournament for a sixth year in a row if it isn’t able to upset a couple of teams in the MAC Conference Tournament.
The Zips are in the better of the two MAC divisions, with Buffalo and Bowling Green, the only two teams with double-digit wins in the conference. The Zips trail those two, plus Kent State in the MAC East.

Akron defeated Miami Ohio over the weekend, snapping a three-game losing streak. The losing streak had some positives, though. The Zips lost by just six vs. Buffalo and by four at Bowling Green.
Four guys average at least 11.5 points per game, including junior guard, Tyler Cheese, who doesn’t score efficiently but grabs nearly five full rebounds per game, on average.
Buffalo Bulls
Buffalo beat Kent State by 23 over the weekend and doesn’t face a real challenge until it finishes with Bowling Green on March 8. The Falcons beat Buffalo at the start of this month, which was the Bulls’ last loss.
Nick Perkins scored 27 points in 26 minutes off the bench. The Bulls have the luxury of a sixth man who would start for most other teams in the country.

In the MAC Tournament format, it pays big time to be the 1 or 2-seed but there isn’t much difference between the two. Buffalo has all but locked up one of those two spots, which means it begins tournament play with a double-bye into the quarterfinals.
