Washington Wizards

After another horrible fourth quarter loss against Portland over the weekend, Washington bounced back with a quality win in Minnesota last night.

The win came without John Wall, who got a platelet-rich plasma injection before the game and will be out at least two weeks to rest his sore left knee. He’s been resting the knee already but the Wizards’ training staff must have felt that a little more intervention was necessary. Wall’s knee just sounds like trouble. And it’s especially discouraging considering the Wizards just gave him an extra $170 million this offseason. That’s a lot of money to give someone with a bad knee to play basketball.

But Bradley Beal is a star and Otto Porter has some really good basketball inside of him when he gets the opportunity. He scored 22 last night on efficient shooting from everywhere.

Marcin Gortat could be a good option to defend Joel Embiid. He doesn’t have much offensive responsibility so he can give it to the Sixers’ star big man on the defensive end all night.

Philadelphia 76ers

The Sixers have recurring injury trouble with one its young stars too. Joel Embiid is healthy for the time being but Ben Simmons might miss another game with a troubling ankle. The injury doesn’t appear to be as serious as Wall’s but it’s discouraging for a player who missed his entire first season in the NBA with a foot problem.

The line is unavailable for this game because of Simmons’ status. He’s that important. If he plays, Philly will be a solid favorite. If he doesn’t, it will be much more of a tossup.

The Sixers still have Covington and Reddick on the perimeter but their value is significantly diluted when they don’t have a playmaker to drive and kick the ball out to them. Simmons is that guy when he’s healthy.

If he can’t go, the game will be much more inside-out with Embiid getting early touches and either scoring or kicking the ball out off of double teams. That game will be slower and probably finish under the total.
