This is a game every NBA fan has had circled on the schedule since the season started. The Warriors and Spurs have been the class of the NBA this season and both come into this match-up playing great basketball.
Golden State are leading the Western Conference and are on a 7-game winning streak after winning against the Mavericks (130-112) on the road last night. The Spurs are second in the West and on a 6-game winning streak.
Those are the longest active winning streaks in the NBA coming into Saturday’s slate.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors just dominated the Mavs, thanks in large part to the splash brothers. Klay Thompson led the way with 39 points (10-15 on 3-pointers), while Stephen Curry chipped in with 30 points (6-12 on 3-pointers).
Curry ended up one rebound shy of a triple-double, as he had 10 assists as well. Harrison Barnes scored 20 points, which is a good sign, as he hadn’t scored double-digits in the previous seven games.
Injuries are starting to be a bit of a concern for GSW. Andre Iguodala is out and isn’t expected back until the playoffs at best. Plus, Andrew Bogut left last night’s game with a big toe injury.
It looks like Marreese Speights will get most of Bogut’s minutes while he’s injured, but Anderson Varejao will likely play more as well. With the injuries upfront, the splash brothers will be relied upon ever more.
San Antonio Spurs
Unlike the Warriors, San Antonio are 100% healthy coming into this game. Tony Parker is coming off an 18 point and 16 assist performance in the Spurs last game, which was a win against Portland.
Parker has two double-doubles in his last four games. Kawhi Leonard has scored 20+ points four games in a row and in nine of the Spurs last ten games. He continues to stuff the stat sheet most nights.
LaMarcus Aldridge has really stepped it up as well. Aldridge has scored 20+ points in eight of the Spurs last nine games. His only knock is that he doesn’t play defense and has been weak on the glass.
The Spurs are coming into this game playing great basketball. During their current winning streak, they have big wins against the Bulls, Thunder and Clippers. They’d love nothing more than to beat GSW.
