Game 4 of the Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies tips off on Monday, May 31st. The series is now leaning in the favor of the Jazz although the Grizzlies aren’t making it easy on the top Western team.
Utah built double-digit leads in Game 3 but each time Memphis would rally to cut into the lead with the match never feeling safe until the closing minutes when Dillon Brooks fouled out of the game.
Of the four matches played on Saturday only the contest between the Grizzlies and Jazz was competitive or offered a question beyond the first quarter on who would get the victory.
This is the first time the franchises are facing each other in post-season play.
Utah Jazz
Donovan Mitchell who returned in Game 2 after missing 17 matches improved upon his first game back but still looks rusty. He shot 9 of 23 collecting 29 points but while his team was on fire from deep he shot 2 of 10 from the perimeter.
Although Mitchell got to the line 11 times which was only three less than the entire Memphis tally of 14.
The star for the Jazz was Mike Conley who was likely inspired playing versus his former team. Although Conley scored less (26 points) than Mitchell he was much more efficient and productive.
The veteran shot 8 of 16 from the field, 7 of 10 from deep, and 4 of 4 from the line. In addition, he grabbed six rebounds and dished eight assists.
Rudy Gobert registered a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds. Bojan Bogdanovic and Jordan Clarkson each scored 15 while Royce O’Neal chipped in 12 points.
Memphis Grizzlies
Once again the Grizzlies had to navigate foul trouble and free throw disparity but the energy and no-quit attitude kept them in the match until the closing minutes.
They remind me of a young Thunder squad from the era when Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, and James Harden were first making their mark in the league.
Ja Morant has often cited Westbrook as an inspiration and it’s easy to see how The Brodie’s competitive nature has rubbed off on the youngster.
Throughout the match, each time Utah would build a double-digit lead the Grizzlies would cut into it. However, 13 proved to be the unlucky number.
Memphis finally took the lead with five minutes remaining on their 12th attempt but at 4:04 Mitchell’s free throw put Utah back and in front for good as they closed on an 11-2 run.
Morant led the scoring with 28 points with Brooks close behind with 27. Grayson Allen scored 17 off the bench while Jonas Valanciunas (10 points, 13 rebounds) and Kyle Anderson (11 points, 13 rebounds) each offered double-doubles.

Free Utah Jazz vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Prediction:
Allen’s point total helped the Grizzlies reserve unit who struggled in Game 2 with 14 points but bested the Jazz in Game 3 26 to 23.
Game 3 went the way of the Jazz based on their blistering hot perimeter shooting (44.2%) combined with getting to the line almost double the amount as the Grizzlies (27 to 14).
While Memphis fights to the final buzzer they won’t get past the depth and skill of the Jazz. Still, this young squad is one of the most exciting teams in the NBA and their time isn’t far off.
