The Charlotte Hornets came out on top in their last matchup with the Indiana Pacers, putting their winning streak at three games in a row.
While in the Western Conference the Utah Jazz got their second win in a row, after beating the Philadelphia 76ers 109-84.
Utah Jazz
After going 3-3 to start the season, the Utah Jazz have started to get it rolling after key figures on the team came back from injuries.

Derrick Favors was out for the first 4 games, while Gordon Hayward only came back Sunday, in the Utah Jazz’s matchup against the New York Knicks. Without them the Jazz offense was at a standstill, as the team just didn’t have any other scoring options besides George Hill, Rodney Hood and Joe Johnson.
The defense was stellar as usual, but on the offensive end they continued to have trouble scoring consistently. Gordon Hayward is the teams first option, so that was expected when his injury was announced. But now that he’s back the Jazz offense has started to come to life.

They scored 114 points on the New York Knicks, and 109 on the Philadelphia 76ers. That’s better then the 75 points they put up against the L.A. Clippers, and the 86 points they put up against the San Antonio Spurs.
I mean that’s a huge increase in scoring averages per game. Without Gordon Hayward the team was barely able to hit 90 points a night.
But now with him back they’ve continued to get into the triple-digit scoring totals through the two games he’s played.
So if they can continue this scoring production the team should have a shot against the Charlotte Hornets. Charlotte doesn’t have as many scoring options as the Utah Jazz.
Besides Nicolas Batum and Kemba Walker the team doesn’t have any other playmakers, meaning the Jazz have got shut those two down in order to come out on top.
Charlotte Hornets
The Charlotte Hornets are sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 5-1. They weren’t expected to play this well, but they have. And a lot of that has got to do with their defense.
Charlotte is the 4th best defensive team in the league right now, allowing opponents to score only 95.8 points per game. That has allowed them to get the record they have, because the team isn’t the greatest scoring unit.
They’re averaging only 102 points per game, which ranks 18th in the association. So they’re not going to be outscoring teams, instead they’re focused on playing stingy defense while scoring efficiently on the offensive end of the floor.
But that’s going to be challenging in their next matchup with the Utah Jazz, because Utah does the exact same things.
The only difference is that the Jazz have more scoring options then the Charlotte Hornets. Kemba Walker is Charlottes leading scoring putting up 24.3 points per game. But besides him, the team doesn’t have many other options to put the ball in the basket.

Nicolas Batum is the teams second option, but he hasn’t lived up to the lofty contract he signed in the summer yet. He’s shooting only 37.3% from the field, while scoring 13.3 points per game.
That’s just not going to cut it, if the teams hoping on making the postseason.
Going up against weaker competition the team can come out on top. But when they start playing better teams they’ve got to show off a better offensive unit. Especially in this next matchup with the Utah Jazz, because the Jazz aren’t coming in looking to lose this game.
That means Charlotte has got to be at their best at all times. Nicolas Batum is really going to be needed this game, as Gordon Hayward is going to be tasked with guarding him.
That means Batum has got to get going early, because if he can do just that, the team will be able to come out with the win.
