Wednesday, November 30th, finds the Toronto Raptors facing the New Orleans Pelicans for the first of two scheduled matches this season. Toronto will host the next meeting on February 23rd.
Both teams last played Monday with the Pelicans hanging on to defeat the Thunder 105-101 while the Raptors welcomed back several members of their core including star Pascal Siakam who led his club to a 100-88 defeat of the Cavaliers.
Last season, the squads played twice with the teams splitting the contests. The Raptors hold the all-time record having bested the Pelicans in 26 of their 43 matches.
Toronto Raptors
It’s funny what happens when your best players are able to don a jersey and compete. The Raptors (and Cavaliers) found that out on Monday as Pascal Siakam returned to the court for the first time since November 4th.
Toronto was 5-5 in his absence but with Siakam back, the team immediately had a more fluid look on both sides of the court, not to mention an obvious uptick in energy that was palpable.
In 30 minutes he posted a double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds, plus five assists). Nick Nurse undoubtedly was thrilled to finally have a healthy contingent as Scottie Barnes, Dalano Banton, and Justin Champagnie also returned.
Nurse switched things up electing to bring Barnes and Gary Trent Jr. off the bench, starting Thad Young and Juancho Hernangomez instead, and again, it paid dividends with arguably their best defensive performance of the season.
Cleveland registered season lows in points (88), 3PFG% (18.4%), and 3PM (7). Donovan Mitchell had a particularly tough night as DPoY candidate OG Anunoby held him to eight points (3-11) ending Mitchell’s 122 consecutive game streak of scoring in double-figures.
On offense, the Raptors score 110.8 points per game (19th) shooting 44.5% from the field (28th) and 33.4% from deep (23rd).
Defensively, the Raptors allow 108.5 opponent points per game ranking (7th) while they shoot 47.8% (25th) from the field and 34.9% from deep (11th).
Otto Porter Jr. (toe) and Precious Achiuwa (ankle) are listed as out indefinitely.
pascal siakam's game never stops growing. cavs did a decent good job of keeping him away from the basket, it didn't even matter. pic.twitter.com/TnxfuoVdMo

New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans are navigating adversity missing two members of their core (Brandon Ingram/CJ McCollum) plus their best defensive big man Larry Nance Jr. two of whom could return this game.
Zion Williamson (23 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, three blocks) and Trey Murphy III (20 points, six rebounds) shouldered the heavy lifting versus the Thunder hanging on for the win as the scrappy Thunder closed the gap in clutch time.
Offensively, the Pelicans rank fifth for scoring averaging 116.7 points per game while shooting 48.4% from the field and 37.6% from the perimeter ranking fifth in both categories.
Defensively, the Pelicans allow opponents to score 111.2 points per game, ranking 11th. New Orleans holds their opponents to 46.3% from the field ranking 12th and boasts the third-best perimeter ranking of 33.2%.
McCollum (quarantine), Nance Jr. (shoulder), and Naji Marshall (illness) are all questionable while Ingram (toe)and E.J. Liddell (knee) are ruled out Wednesday.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Raptors are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games.
- Pelicans are 4-16 ATS in their last 20 games when playing at home against Toronto.
- Raptors are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against New Orleans.
- The total has gone UNDER in 7 of New Orleans’ last 10 games.
Free Toronto Raptors vs. New Orleans Pelicans NBA Prediction:
These teams are both dealing with injury adversity with the Raptors just getting four players back and only awaiting Achiuwa and Porter’s return while the Pels won’t have Ingram and McCollum is questionable.
It’s tough sledding to win without your best players so much could depend on McCollum’s availability but I like the Raptors and points based on just how reinvigorated the team played with Siakam back.
