Raptors vs. Heat Gameday
The two clubs that lost in the quarter-finals in the East line up on Monday as the Toronto Raptors face the Miami Heat.
Toronto got punched in the mouth by the Knicks in their quarter-final matchup, losing 101-117. In fairness, the Raptors were missing two starters (Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett) and had been struggling in recent play.
In the loss, five Raptors scored in double figures, with Brandon Ingram leading the team, scoring 31 points with six rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
Similarly, the Heat fell 108-117 in the quarters to the Orlando Magic, although they got out to a huge lead early. In the end, the Magic made the better adjustments to capture the victory.
All five starters plus Jaime Jaquez Jr. scored in double figures, with Tyler Herro registering the high point total of 20.
Both teams have been off since Tuesday, so they have had ample time to rest up and practice.

Toronto Raptors vs. Miami Heat Odds & Last 5
Head-to-head last year, the Heat dominated the regular series, taking three of the four meetings. Monday is the first time the clubs will face each other in this campaign.
In the last five contests, the Raptors have struggled, going 1-4 and clearly missing the presence of Barrett, who is a key part of the offense, offering a slasher and cutter to help spread the floor. Toronto sits in sixth with a 15-11 record.
Like their opponent, the Heat went through a strong stretch followed by a tough losing segment. They enter this match having lost four in a row. Miami resides in the eighth seed with a 14-11 record.
Miami is favored to win by 5.5 points with an over/under of 235.5 points.
Raptors Stats
Toronto ranks 12th offensively (115.1) and tied for eighth defensively (113.2) while holding the 12th-best net rating (+1.9) and ranks 21st in pace (100.22).
The East’s sixth seed averages 115.8 points per game while its opponents average 113.9 points. In terms of dimes and boards, Toronto averages 29.4 (tied for fourth with Miami) and 42.3 (23rd), respectively.
Toronto’s team leaders are Brandon Ingram for scoring (21.5 points), Immanuel Quickley for assists (6.2), Jakob Poeltl for rebounds (8.0), and Scottie Barnes for steals (1.4) and blocks (1.6).
As a team the Raptors shoot 36.1% from the perimeter with six* players shooting over 36.8%.

Heat Stats
Miami ranks 13th (115.0) offensively, fifth defensively (111.9), tied for 10th in net rating (+3.0), and runs with a pace of 105.30, which ranks first overall.
The East’s eighth seed averages 121.7 points per game while their opponents average 118.2 points. In terms of dimes and boards, Miami averages 29.4 (tied with Toronto for fourth) and 45.4 (tied for 7th), respectively.
Miami’s team leaders are Norman Powell for scoring (24.6 points), Davion Mitchell for assists (7.8), Kel’el Ware for rebounds (10.1) and blocks (1.3), while Dru Smith leads with 1.4 steals.
Perimeter shooting is a strength for the Heat, who have five* players shooting over 37%. Notably, that does not include Tyler Herro or Jahmir Young who haven’t played the minimum of games yet.
*minimum 10 games
Toronto Raptors vs. Miami Heat bottom line:
When teams get out to a strong start, it’s typical for the league to need a while to review their system and make adjustments. It feels like both of these teams have been impacted by that process (although the Raptors’ injuries could be the larger reason in their case).
Miami is running with the fastest pace, so that will also be a key area of focus entering this match.

Raptors Heat Free Pick: Raptors +5.5
Here is my Raptors Heat free pick. Miami was on a tear when Tyler Herro returned, but inexplicably, they’ve struggled with him back on the court, going 3-5 in those eight matches. Part of it may be figuring out how the starting unit gains cohesiveness, but more likely it’s the league adjusting to their new style.
Similarly, it’s a bit of a shock just how much the Raptors struggle without RJ Barrett which points to the need for their copious wings to spend some practice time on the fundamentals of slashing and cutting.
Since his return Herro is averaging 23.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals while shooting 50.5% from the field and 40.5% from the perimeter.
Toronto has played well on the road (7-5), and will potentially have departed for South Beach early, given the numerous days off. That may or may not bode well for the Raps, who are eager to get back on track.
Miami has also had five days off, so they’ll also be fresh for this match.
Ultimately, the Heat have owned Toronto in recent years, especially at home, so I’ll take them to win but I expect the Raptors to give them a fight, so I’ll also take the points.
