Toronto took a 3-2 series lead with a thrilling win at the ACC. The Raptors were trailing by 13-points in the 4th quarter, but the team woke up. Toronto outscored the Pacers 25-9 in the final frame to win 102-99.
The win was far from easy. In fact, it had looked like Solomon Hill tied the game at the buzzer, but after replay Hill’s 3-pointer didn’t count, as he was unable to get the shot off in time.
Toronto will need to play way better if they expect to close this series out in Indiana.
Despite the poor performance, Toronto still won and DeMar DeRozan had his best game of the series, which is a good sign for the future. DeRozan finished with 34 points (10-22 from the field and 12-13 on FTs).
Kyle Lowry was just 3-11 from the field (1-5 on 3-pointers). Jonas Valanciunas was 5-8 from the field (11 points) in 23 minutes, but I have no idea why he hasn’t been played down the stretch the past two games.
The Raptors need to feed JV in the paint all game rather than play small ball with the Pacers. Bismack Biyombo had a big game 5 (10 points and 16 rebounds) and Norman Powell provided 28 strong minutes off the bench.
Toronto badly need Lowry to wake up. He was one of the best PGs during the regular season, but we’re still waiting for his playoff breakout. Until Lowry starts producing, the Raptors aren’t a big threat.
Indiana are now on the ropes, but they’ll get to play at home where they’ve gone 27-16 this season. Indiana really should have won game 5, but they made too many mistakes in the 4th quarter.
Frank Vogel may have been a bit too comfortable and it cost him the biggest game of the series. The Pacers had Toronto on the ropes, but they came out in the final frame with a group of mainly bench players.
Paul George scored 39 points, George Hill had 15 points and Myles Turner pitched in with 14 points. Turner was 7-10 from the field and the Pacers would be wise to feed him a bit more often down low.
Monta Ellis shot a terrible 3-10 from the field and Rodney Stuckey went 1-10 from the field off the bench. When the shooters aren’t making shots, it’s tough to close out and win basketball games.

4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Indiana Pacers –2 (-110)
They’re on the ropes and I expect them to come out and build another double-digit lead in the opening quarter, but this time they’ll hold the lead and force a decisive game 7 in Toronto.
