On Saturday, November 12th, the Toronto Raptors and Indiana Pacers meet for the first of three meetings between the clubs this season. Indy will host again on January 2nd while Toronto will host the final meeting on March 22nd.
The Raptors played Friday on the front side of this back-to-back set getting absolutely pounded 113-132 by the Thunder while the Pacers have the major rest advantage last playing Wednesday in a losing 119-122 battle versus the Nuggets.
The Pacers hold the all-time record between the clubs with 52 wins in 99 meetings. Last season, the teams played four times with the Raptors victorious in three of the four contests.
Toronto Raptors
This back-to-back set for the Raptors is showcasing Canadian talent as they faced Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luguentz Dort on Friday and in this contest will get their first look at rookie standout, Bennedict Mathurin.
They still have to play Portland to get a look at Shaedon Sharpe — man the Canadian National team keeps looking better and better.
The Raps will be looking to rebound from an atrocious outing in OKC where the Thunder seemingly turned the tables on them winning all the hustle categories.
Toronto was never in the match which allowed Nick Nurse to shut down his core group early but there are more injury concerns as Scottie Barnes banged his knee (and was already nursing a sore ankle) plus Fred VanVleet had to leave the bench with a non-COVID illness.
Precious (ankle – torn ligaments) will be out a minimum of 10 days before being reevaluated. Pascal Siakam will miss a minimum of two weeks with a groin injury.
Indiana Pacers
In the preview for the Pacers – Nuggets match, I noted how both clubs are offensive powerhouses. That assessment was given life in their match with 11 cumulative double figures scorers and four double-doubles (three by the Pacers) produced.
What isn’t known is whether Chad Buchanan will elect to trade Myles Turner and Buddy Hield to gain additional draft picks and continue reformulating his club or hold steady since the Pacers are intertwined with a group of five teams in the East all with five wins.
Should he elect to just move one player, Hield is the more likely given how quickly Mathurin has adapted to the pros and the desire to get him in that starting rotation working beside Tyrese Haliburton.
Case in point, Mathuruin dropped 30 points versus Denver (his second 30-point game in just 11 games as a pro) while Haliburton registered a double-double of 21 points and 11 assists.
As crazy as it might sound, the Pacers might already have the most lethal and best-suited backcourt combo in the NBA — they just aren’t starting together yet. Hey Chad Buchanan – TRADE Buddy Hield ‘-)

The match in OKC felt like an easier win opportunity for the Raptors who has to travel and face a rested Indy squad with a rookie knowing his home nation will be watching on Saturday (read- look for a big night from Mathurin).
The absence of Pascal Siakam and now Precious Achiuwa is showing because the Raptors’ win versus the Rockets wasn’t pretty, then they got spanked by OKC.
Nurse’s teams are resilient and tough so regardless of who suits up, I’d expect a scrappy effort on Saturday against the rested Pacers. The single-point spread is essentially the oddsmakers saying it’s a coin toss.
I simply can’t envision Toronto having three poor defensive efforts in a row so I’m taking them but with some hesitation.
