On Wednesday February 14, the Toronto Raptors arrives at the United Center to face the host Chicago Bulls. This Valentine’s Day match is the last game both teams will play prior to the break.
Toronto enters on the second night of a back to back with a win over the Heat in the front side and are on a six game win streak. Chicago last played on Monday defeating the Magic.
Last season, the Bulls took two of the three contests, but this season the Raptors have won all three early meetings. The Bulls hold the all-time record having bested the Raptors in 48 of their 84 matches.
Although the Raptors have won all three meetings this season versus the Bulls, the win at the United Center this season was the first time since 2013 Toronto had managed to win on Chicago’s court.
Toronto is on a six game win streak and winners of eight out of their past ten games. This back to back set versus the Heat and Bulls are being approached with vigor, especially since the Raptors overtook the Celtics for the top spot in the East.
Toronto’s reserve unit is on fire currently. In their past five games coming into this week the reserves were averaging 55 points. Notably, the reserves put up 40 against the Heat, but Casey seemed to be holding back on their minutes likely so he can play them more versus the Bulls.
After stepping on an opponent’s foot OG Anunoby exited the game with an ankle sprain and didn’t play in the Heat match. Given the rookie has looked a little tired lately expect the Raptors to exercise caution and likely hold him out until after the break.
In all three previous meetings this season Zach LaVine wasn’t available, so his presence will offer the Bulls another offensive threat for the Raptors to address.
The Bulls are in 2-8 in the last 10 games. In the most recent win over the Magic, Zach LaVine sealed the win with a key steal late in the game. LaVine also added 18 points, 5 assists and 7 rebounds.
Four other Bulls scored in double digits; Lauri Markkanen (21), Bobby Portis (19), Jerian Grant (14) and Denzel Valentine (11).
Kris Dunn is still recovering from the concussion he sustained on a poor dunk attempt. Cameron Payne remains out rehabbing from foot surgery with an expected return date after the All-Star break.

Despite their top tier position the Raptors enter fatigued having played Tuesday against a scrappy Heat squad. Although I do anticipate a Raptors win, I also believe the game will be close
