San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs were rolling right along, winners of four in a row including games against the Lakers and Pelicans, but they faltered on Monday night against the Orlando Magic in the AT&T Center.
The game after holding Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans to just ninety-five points, which was their lowest output on the young season, the Spurs gave up 117 to the league-worst offense. Aaron Gordon led the victors with twenty-six points.
San Antonio was missing Rudy Gay, who, again, has been bothered by his right heel, an injury that just hasn’t fully gone away ever since he arrived in San Antonio.
The Spurs had to get a little bigger with Gay out and they’re already big to begin with. Opponents’ speed is an issue and it’s only magnified with Gay on the mend. It’s unclear how long he’ll be out but he’s an important piece to the Spurs, both offensively and defensively.
The Heat was in Detroit on Monday night and escaped with a five-point win in overtime, despite three Pistons with at least twenty-four points.
Josh Richardson hit a game-high twenty-seven and his backcourt mate Goran Dragic chipped in twenty-one. Dwyane Wade and Kelly Olynyk had double-digits off the bench.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak and helped the Heat avoid a 3–6 start but it could have been easier. Miami led by twelve with 8:30 remaining in regulation before Detroit forced overtime. Some way a win is a win, though.
The Heat played a ton of close games last season, partly due to its inability to close out wins. The NBA measures clutch wins and games within five points in the final five minutes and Miami played fifty-three last season, the most in the league. It’s played six already this season in its first nine.
Hassan Whiteside missed Monday’s game with a sore knee and he’s considered day-to-day. Andre Drummond gobbled up twenty-four rebounds with Whiteside out. The Heat match up better with the Spurs without their leading rebounder than they did with Detroit, though.

Free San Antonio Spurs vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction: it stays close.
I’m often making these predictions when it comes to Heat games but its a prediction that’s often right. I don’t see either team getting separation. If you can get both sides by single digits, it’s a play to make.
