No Tim Duncan no problem for San Antonio, which currently has the second best record in the NBA behind Golden State.
Houston is surprisingly right behind them making this Texas Triangle matchup all the more interesting.
Also there is a great one on one matchup between Kawhi Leonard and the Beard (James Harden).
San Antonio Spurs
Tim Duncan is a surefire hall of famer but replacing him with Pau Gasol at this stage of his career was probably an upgrade.
Gasol’s numbers may look down but the Spurs are not burning him out during the regular season. He is third on the team in scoring and tops in boards and blocks.
Leonard continues to advance his game averaging a career best 24ppg while playing superb defense. He is undoubtedly the go to player on the team right now.
Lamarcus Aldridge is still a good enough scorer to carry the team for stretches and is moving his game out to the three point line for more versatility.
He has always been a good shooter and it makes this team even more dangerous.
Patty Mills and Tony Parker are essentially splitting the minutes at PG. Both can score and when you put them together you get close to an all-star level player.
San Antonio is all about winning today and preparing for another championship run. Nobody manages that balance better.
Houston seems to finally be comfortable with their up tempo attack. They are second in the league in scoring averaging 113ppg.
They have won 10 in a row and split their two games with the Spurs this season – both teams won on the road. I have to give the Rockets credit. I saw them more of a #7 or #8 seed this season and they are playing a lot better than that. This will be a good test of how hot they are.
James Harden is having an MVP type season. His averages are 27ppg, 11apg and 8rpg. The assists and boards would be career highs.
Also shining in the new system is Eric Gordon. He scored a season high 29 points against his old mates, the Pelicans, and is second on the club at 17ppg.
Former Pelican Ryan Anderson has also found a great home for his stretch four game. He is third in scoring at 13ppg.
Houston does not get much production inside and might be challenged there in this one as Clint Capela left their OT win against Minnesota and is questionable.
That likely means more work for Nene. Or maybe they go with even more offense and start rookie Kyle Wiltjer.

Free San Antonio Spurs vs. Houston Rockets NBA Prediction:
Houston is red hot bit San Antonio is more than capable of cooling them down. They love those challenges too.
I am curious to see what the status is of Capela and what that will mean to the line.
