Sunday, December 16th brings an NBA matchup your way between two up and coming teams from the Western Conference as the Sacramento Kings face off against the Dallas Mavericks live from the American Airlines Center.
Sacramento holds a slight edge over Dallas winning six of the last 10 meetings between these two teams. Both teams are coming off of losses as the Kings let one get away against Golden State on Friday night, and the Mavericks added to their losing streak against Phoenix on Thursday, they’ve now dropped seven straight games against Phoenix.
Sacramento Kings
This Sacramento team is really becoming one of the more fun teams to watch in the league right now, with their young core of players seeming to gel at the right time. Sitting a half game out of the 8th spot in the West heading into the New Year is something this team should be really proud of.

If the Kings can hang toe to toe with Golden State, they can hang with anyone in the League. Dallas has been hot of late, but the Kings haven’t been too shabby either. Winners of three out of their last five games now, and including back to back games scoring 130 or more points, Sacramento can turn on the scary vibes whenever they want, it seams.
Sacramento comes into this game averaging 115.6 points per contest, while their opponents are giving up an average of 107.6, but if the Kings can shoot as well as they did on Friday night, there should be nothing to worry about for them. They shot 46.9% from the field, 34.1% from three point land and 80% from the line. If not for going so cold down the stretch Friday, those numbers would’ve been even better.

Buddy Hield led all Kings players in scoring Friday night with 27 in a game where Sacramento had five players in double digits. Willie Cauley-Stein had a double-double with 22 points and 11 boards, and De’Aaron Fox had himself a game as well with 25 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds.
Injury Report: PF Marvin Bagley III is officially listed as “day-to-day” but I heard he was going to miss around 10 days with this current knee injury, and SG Iman Shumpert is listed as “questionable” for Sunday.
Dallas Mavericks
The moment every Mavericks fan had been waiting all season for finally came on Thursday night. In what was a record breaking moment, Dirk Nowitzki broke Kobe Byrant’s record of the most seasons with one franchise. Though his two points in six minutes left a lot to be desired for fans of the future hall-of-famer.
Though, getting Nowitzki back at this point of the season couldn’t be a better blessing for this team who has now won five of their last seven, including beating Houston and Portland over that stretch. Dirk may not get the minutes we have grown accustomed to seeing out of him, but his insight, and ability to coach up the youngsters from a position on the bench is invaluable.

Dallas really struggled shooting the ball on Thursday night in Phoenix, going 39.7% from the field, 15.2% from deep and 66.7% from the line. If this happens again on Sunday, this will be a blowout in Sacramento’s favor. Harrison Barnes led all Mavericks in scoring on Thursday night with 15 points. DeAndre Jordan added 14 points and 15 rebounds for the double-double.
Injury Report: PG J.J. Barea is listed as “questionable” for Sunday’s game.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Kings are 8-3 ATS in last 11 games vs. Dallas
- Mavericks are 26-12 ATS in their last 38 Sunday games
- Over Under is 5-5 in team’s last 10 head to head matchups
Free Sacramento Kings vs. Dallas Mavericks NBA Prediction:
This game will be won by the team with the better shooting hand on Sunday. And I’m not saying that to sound ridiculous, the Kings shot out of their minds on Friday night, while the Mavericks shot well below their potential in their loss on Thursday.
The real question comes down to this: Which team is more likely to bounce back from a tough loss better. Experience normally wins out in this type of question, but with the Kings being so hot right now, Dallas will need to step up their game, big time, to win this one.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Kings ATS
Dallas has an excellent home record, 13-2, which should give some people an idea of how to bet on this game, but I still think any team that can give Golden State a scare like Sacramento did on Friday will be the hands down favorite nine times out of 10. Take the Kings to win this game on the road. They do play their best ball outside of the Golden 1 Center.
