Wednesday December 6, finds the Sacramento Kings facing host Cleveland Cavaliers. The teams represent the opposite end of the NBA spectrum with LeBron James crew prepping for another title run while the Kings are lottery bound.
Cleveland holds the all-time record 58-57 but the Kings have played the Cavs well registering at least one win in four of the last five seasons.
Sacramento Kings
It was thought the addition of veterans Zach Randolph, George Hill and Vince Carter could help transition the myriad of youngsters into the professional game and potentially make the squad competitive. But, if Hill’s tweet filled angry emoji’s is a hint, it appears the vets aren’t entirely excited by their roles. Hill specifically has regressed to a shadow of the player he was prior, not only in terms of production, but also defensively. Part of this is due to the rapid ascension of Frank Mason whom the team thought would take longer to assimilate.

Of the youngsters on the squad De’Aaron Fox definitely looks poised to become a top tier talent. Through 23 games he’s averaging 10.3 points, 4.2 assists and 3.3 rebounds. Most notably, Fox tends to shine brightest under the biggest spotlight, so this match will be right up his alley. Another bright spot is shooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic who is averaging 10.2 points in the last 10 games and has the potential to get hot from the perimeter.

Cauley-Stein sustained a lower back strain in the last game which may mean his absence in this game. His presence is key given his production in the four recent wins was palpable: 19.2 points, 3.5 assists, 6.75 rebounds and 1.75 blocks.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Remember the team who took lower tier squads for granted to start the season? They’ve been replaced by a squad feasting on sub .500 teams to improve their defense and explode offensively through the 12 game win streak. In spite of this change the Cavaliers need to be cautious of the trap game here with the Kings upsetting the Thunder, 76ers, Blazers and Warriors as four of their seven wins.
Despite that, Cleveland has an opportunity to capitalize on a defense which allows opponents to shoot 47.8% (28th) from the field and 39.1% (29th) from the perimeter.

Scanning statistics of team leaders you’ll be hard pressed (aside from Kevin Love’s rebounds) to find anyone other than LeBron James noted. His 28 points, 7.9 rebounds, 8.5 assists, 1.3 steals, 1.1 blocks along with 58.4FG% and 41.6 3PFG% enter MVP territory. The key is whether James should maintain 36.5 MPG throughout the season. Given the easy strength of schedule Cleveland played to date and the second easiest December schedule they’ll use this timeframe to pad the win column.
Iman Shumpert (knee) joins the growing list of walking wounded of Isaiah Thomas (hip), Derrick Rose (ankle) and Tristan Thompson (calf). Thompson is the only member of the list who may play tonight.

Free Sacramento Kings vs. Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Prediction:
With the uncertainty of Stein’s availability and Cleveland’s current win streak it’s hard to bet against the Cavaliers. That said, vets Zach Randolph, George Hill and Vince Carter may want to put on a show in the event the Kings want to shop them come trade deadline. This is a prime opportunity to showcase their wares to the King.
