2017-2018 NBA Previews – Sacramento Kings Odds
Looking for 2017 Sacramento Kings Predictions? We’ve got your back. The Kings enter 2017-18 knowing that a new era is underway. Not only will this be the franchise’s first full season without DeMarcus Cousins since 2010, but it’s added a nice mix of veteran players to go along with its young core.

Unfortunately for the Kings, this new era likely isn’t going to be the beginning of a playoff era. This team has missed the postseason for the past 11 seasons, and while there are a lot of signs pointing to optimism, there aren’t many pointing to the playoffs in a brutal Western Conference.
Sacramento Kings Strengths:
There’s a lot of positive when it comes to this iteration of the Kings. Despite being a whole lot more likable than they’ve been in recent years, they have legitimate veteran depth.
Coming over to the Kings this season is Zach Randolph and Vince Carter from the Memphis Grizzlies. Both players will add offensive production, a veteran presence and a bit of the grit-and-grind style that defined their time with the Grizz.
This team also acquired George Hill, who is going to be a solid, consistent presence as the starting point guard.

As far as youth goes, this team also has plenty of it. Behind Hill is De’Aaron Fox, the fifth pick from this past summer’s draft. If all goes according to plan, he could become the starter by the time the season comes to a close.
This squad also has Buddy Hield, Willie Cauley-Stein, Skal Labissiere and boom-or-bust prospect Harry Giles.

Overall, the youth is going to help this team run at a blinding pace this season. The Kings were tied with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons for 22nd in pace last season, but that number should be much higher next year.
Sacramento Kings Weaknesses:
Even though the Kings desperately needed to move on from Cousins, they now lack the true star power to contend in today’s NBA—and especially out West.
It’s certainly possible that one of the franchise’s young studs turns into a star eventually, but it’s not happening this season.
Although there’s plenty of offensive options on this roster, we need to see them click before we consider that end of the floor a strength. The Kings were bottom 10 last year in offensive efficiency (points per 100 possessions) and bottom six in points per game.
Defensively, this team was just as bad. It was tied with the Minnesota Timberwolves for 26th last season in defensive efficiency (points allowed per 100 possessions), and it was 24th in points allowed.
Asking this squad to improve on both ends may be a bit much, so assuming the defense remains suspect, this group would be smart to prioritize scoring and running teams out of the gym.
Sacramento Kings Betting Prediction: 28-54
The Kings are young enough that they’re going to fight back and win certain games this season they have no business being in. That’s the good side of untapped potential.
The problem is that it’s also probably going to struggle closing out close games. Yes, having vets like Zach Randolph and Vince Carter will help tremendously, but they won’t get this team above 30 wins.

A successful season for the Kings would be a third place finish in the Pacific Division. The Golden State Warriors are going to win the division outright—there’s really no debating that—and the LA Clippers, despite losing Chris Paul, are still talented enough to finish in second.
Where things get complicated is when looking at the Los Angeles Lakers next to the Kings (assuming the Phoenix Suns land in fifth without much “competition” to do so).
At this point, we’re giving the Lakers a slight edge here based solely on talent. The Kings will be in the hunt for third place, but at this point in the process, we’re looking at a fourth place finish.
