The Clippers came out firing in game one and did not let the home crowd leave disappointed. They scored 115 points on the night on a scintillating 53.8%. Portland scored a respectable 95 points on their own, but they laboured for those points, as evidenced by their sub-par 38.5% shooting.
Portland Trail Blazers
I’m sure that was not the start the young Blazer envisioned heading into this series. Despite being faced with a more talented and experienced opponent, the lack of playoff seasoning on the Blazers was very evident.
The starting lineup had no one who was able to make their mark on the game. Damian Lillard laboured to 21 points on 17 shots. The rest of the starting lineup shot an atrocious 27.8% on 10-36 from the floor.
Gerald Henderson was helpful in a reserve role scoring 16 on the night but the rest of the bench was mostly ineffective. If Lillard and McCollum struggle the way they did in Game 1 the bench will need to step up for Portland to have any chance.
The Blazers only won 16 games on the road this year, resulting in a 29% road winning percentage.
Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers Big 3 really had their way in this one. Damian Lillard will never be mistaken as an elite defender and Chris Paul took full advantage against him dropping 28 points and 11 assists with excellent efficiency.
When Paul takes over a game like he did in Game 1, he’s usually able to get his teammates a number of easy buckets and open looks with his ability to meticulously pick apart opposing defenses. It’s no coincidence that JJ Reddick (8 for 12) and DeAndre Jordan (5 for 7) both converted over two thirds of their shots.
The team shot so well on the night that only one player, Jeff Green, shot less than 50% from the field and he only took 4 shots in the game.
DeAndre Jordan made his presence felt in the middle with 4 blocks, but it’s worth keeping on eye on his free throw shooting going forward. In a close game, Portland may decide to “Hack-a-Jordan” as a means of exploiting a major flaw in his game. In Game 1, Jordan struggled badly to the tune of 8-18 from the charity stripe.
The Clippers are now 30-12 at Staples and will likely extend that to 31 if the offense can play the way it did in Game 1.

Free Portland Trail Blazers vs. Los Angeles Clippers NBA Prediction:
I think the Blazers can make a better game of it, but I still don’t think they can handle L.A.’s front line. Look for Chris Paul and co. to roll to another victory and send the series back to Portland up 2-0.
