Monday, May 3rd the Portland Trail Blazers take on the Atlanta Hawks in the clubs’ second and final meeting of the season. The Blazers won the first contest on January 16th, 112-106.
The Blazers hold the all-time record between the squads with 59 victories in 117 meetings. Last season these clubs played twice with the teams splitting the season series.
Portland Trail Blazers
The Blazers like to play on the road as they proved in a gritty 129-119 victory versus the Celtics on Sunday.
Clutch time was a disaster for Boston as Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum both attempted to trap Norman Powell running into each other and forcing them both from the match.

It was the 20th road win for Portland, second only to the Suns who also have 20 road wins but three fewer losses.
More importantly, the win by the Blazers plus losses by the Lakers to the Raptors and Mavericks to the Kings draw them all even on the season and will make things very interesting down the stretch. Portland and LA will play this coming week to determine the tiebreaker.
CJ McCollum led the way with 33 points shooting 12 of 20 adding five rebounds, and five assists. Damian Lillard (26 points and 13 assists plus six rebounds) and Jusuf Nurkic (14 points, 11 rebounds) both registered double-doubles.
Powell (23), Carmelo Anthony (13), and Robert Covington (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Zach Collins is the only Hawks player still out as he recovers from a stress fracture to his ankle.
Atlanta Hawks
The three-game losing streak by the Hawks’ was ended on Saturday with a victory over Chicago. Atlanta got a bit fortunate as neither Zach LaVine nor Nikola Vucevic were playing for the Bulls.
Trae Young led the way with 33 points, seven assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Both Clint Capela (20 points and 11 rebounds) and John Collins (13 points and 10 rebounds plus four steals) registered double-doubles.
Bogdan Bogdanovic had missed the two prior games but didn’t look like he missed a beat with 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
By virtue of the victory, Atlanta secured their return to the postseason (at least the play-in tournament) for the first time in four years.
Coach Nate McMillan advised De’Andre Hunter who has missed 45 games with a knee issue is nearing a return while Cam Reddish who has missed 35 games with Achilles soreness isn’t expected back until the postseason.
Bogdan Bogdanovic (left hamstring soreness) is probable while Tony Snell (right ankle sprain) is questionable.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Blazers are 6-4 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
- The Blazers are 6-4 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- The Hawks are 12-6 ATS in their last 18 games.
- The total has gone under in 4 of Atlanta’s last 5 games.
Free Portland Trail Blazers vs. Atlanta Hawks NBA Prediction:
Portland seemed to be spiraling losing five in a row (four at home) so when they embarked on their second six-game road trip of the season primarily facing elite teams the situation looked bleak.
Instead, they’ve won the long the first four games with only this Hawks match and Cleveland remaining. I said all season if Portland could just get healthy and improve even slightly defensively they could be dangerous.
The Hawks meanwhile are among the deepest clubs in the association but I’m still not sold on the team having the right cohesion required.
