Friday, June 11th the Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets semi-finals series shifts to Ball Arena for the next two games. Phoenix took care of business at home winning both contests and have put the Nuggets in a familiar situation where they’ll need to win four of the next five games to win the series.
While Denver came back from being down 3-1 twice last year in the bubble that feat occurred with Jamal Murray absolutely torching opponents in the Disney bubble.
The Kings, Timberwolves, Bulls, and other young squads should pay attention to what is happening with the Suns this season and recognize how valuable a veteran leader is to ascend up the ladder.
Chris Paul battled through the shoulder injury for the start of the Lakers series but looks to be back to his typical self and has demonstrated that fact in the two wins for the Suns.
When the Nuggets briefly threatened to take over Game 2, Monty Williams reinserted CP3 and he immediately calmed the troops. The final stats showcase a double-double of 17 points and 15 assists that included some highlight reel no-look passes, lobs, and other jaw-dropping dishes.
The Point God added his name once more to the history books becoming the only player in NBA playoff history to produce 15 or more assists on three occasions with no turnovers.
His tutelage of the young Suns especially Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, and Mikal Bridges is paying real-time benefits. Booker (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Ayton (15 points, 10 rebounds) also registered double-double efforts.
Bridges chipped in 16 points while Jae Crowder (11) and Torrey Craig (10) were the other double-figure scorers.
Even prior to tip the situation looked dire for the Nuggets as Michael Porter Jr. struggled to get through shoot. It was clear his back was going to limit him by how he was moving.
That proved to be an accurate assessment as he shot 3 of 13 for 11 points and was repeatedly targeted by Phoenix on the defensive end. Of note, Porter Jr. dropped down draft boards because of his back (subsequent surgeries) and was forced to sit his first season in the NBA.
The worst part of this situation is Will Barton returned and was a factor despite being limited to 15 minutes by the medical staff. Barton registered 10 points, three assists, a rebound and a block.
Nikola Jokic offered his typical double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds, plus six assists but needs help from others on his team.
Reportedly, Aaron Gordon and JaMychal Green spearheaded a lockerroom discussion after Game 1 stating they didn’t play with enough energy and seemed to play with fear.
Apparentlly, they didn’t get their own message as Gordon (six points, one rebound) and Green (four points, five rebounds) weren’t exactly leading by example.
No injury report has been submitted as of posting which begs the question of whether Porter Jr. wiill be able to go or if PJ Dozier (right adductor strain) will be ready to return.

Free Phoenix Suns vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction:
Coach Michael Malone nailed it stating only one team played with a sense of urgency with many of his players allowing their cold shooting to impact their defensive effort. To wit, Phoenix won rebounding and paint scoring despite the Nuggets size and depth.
It’s a must-win for Denver with this game undoubtedly being the harbinger for whether this will be a long series or over on Sunday.
