2016-2017 NBA Previews – Suns Odds
Looking for 2016 Phoenix Suns Predictions? We’ve got your back. The Phoenix Suns have been rebuilding for what seems like forever. At the same time, it doesn’t seem like too long ago they were a mere piece away from rejoining the playoffs and becoming a threat. Remember when they nearly traded for Pau Gasol a few years ago? That plan never came to fruition and they’ve been stockpiling drafts and young pieces ever since.

The question now is: When will the Suns put it all together to not only escape the bottom of the Western Conference, but return to the days where they’re both fun to watch (which they currently are) and competitive (which they are not).
Phoenix Suns Strengths:
When talking about Phoenix’s strengths, you have to start with the backcourt. Devin Booker, Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight create a triumvirate of explosive youth and talent that should be able to give just about any defense headaches on any given night.
One word there sticks out about this entire roster, though: youth.
This team has multiple teenagers on the roster and is flooded with potential and energy all across the depth chart.
This past offseason saw the Suns add two top-10 players in the draft, and while the class as a whole has earned deserved criticism in regard to overall talent beyond Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram, there’s no denying that two top-10 players help improve your team both immediately and in the long run.
The hope here is that the young players such as Dragan Bender and Marquese Criss will be able to lean on the veteran leadership of guys such as Tyson Chandler, Leandro Barbosa and Jared Dudley.
This team will need that — especially when one of its strengths on the court, fast break offense, isn’t enough to simply outscore opponents who are further along in their respective developments.
Phoenix Suns Weaknesses:
The Suns are attempting to form a new identity in 2016-17, and that begins with a new head coach in Earl Watson.
Although there’s something to be said for having a leader roaming the sidelines who is projected to be a player’s coach (not to mention someone who is recently removed from playing in the league himself), there’s also the fear of the unknown when it comes to a first-year head coach.
When it comes to the players on the roster, the Suns clearly lack one thing: a true star. The hope is that Booker or even Bender can eventually fill that role (or that Bledsoe someone takes that final step or two), but that seems unlikely to happen at this point in the process.
The NBA is as star-driven a league as there is in professional sports, and not having one sets Phoenix back in terms of contention.
Another weakness this team faces is an ironic one, but it’s youth. Remember how that was a strength?
It’s also the reason this team will likely drop close games throughout the year.
It’s true that this team is young enough not to realize (or care) that it doesn’t belong on the same court as most teams, but it’s also true that putting a young roster in tough situations rarely works out in your favor.
Expect this team to be in it at the end of many games throughout the season, but don’t expect many of those contests to go their way (see: 115-110 preseason loss to Portland despite Booker’s 34 points).
Phoenix Suns Betting Prediction: 24-58
With the season a mere few weeks away, Vegas has the over/under set at 26.5 for Phoenix.
To hit the over, the Suns would need to win four more contests than they did last season, and although there’s talent scattered across the roster, that seems ambitious considering the inexperience and question marks that define this team entering 2016-17.
