An Eastern Conference matchup will see the Philadelphia 76ers, losers of seven of the last eight games, head to Orlando to take on the Magic, who has lost four of the last five.
This is a battle of the bottom of the East and there isn’t seemingly much to play for in this one, beyond pride.
After having a really solid run of games in early January, a run that saw the Sixers surpass their win total from the entire 2015-2016 season, Philly has shown signs of regressing, losing seven of the last eight games.
Part of the recent losses has to be the fact that Joel Embiid has been sitting out due to soreness in his left knee. The good news is that he should be back in the lineup on Thursday against the Magic.
Embiid has been a fantastic member of this team, making everyone around him better.
“The Process” is averaging 20.2 points and 7.8 assists per game, while shooting 46.6% from the field. His enthusiasm on and off the court has been contagious, and the Sixers squad has rallied around him.
Unfortunately, when he’s out of the lineup, the team has very little to offer on either side of the ball. Defensively, Philadelphia gives up over 106 points per game, 23rd in the NBA. And the team hasn’t been any better offensively. The Sixers are 4th worst in the NBA in scoring, averaging just over 101 points a night.
Unlike the Sixers, there’s not much entertaining about the Orlando Magic. The team averages under 100 points per game, second worst in the league, and doesn’t have a single player averaging 20 points per game.
The Magic’s best scorer has been forward Evan Fournier. Fournier is averaging 16.7 points per game on 44% shooting. He’s also a great free throw shooter at 84%. Fournier is an important part of this Orlando squad, but a guy like him isn’t going to win games night in and night out.
Center Serge Ibaka, the major addition to the Magic this season, has had some great performances on both sides of the ball. He’s averaging over 15 points, seven rebounds, and nearly two blocks per game. He hasn’t been consistent, but when he’s on, he’s on.
Defensively, the Magic struggle, especially against highly volatile offenses. Orlando gives up 105.8 points per game, putting it 20th in the NBA in that category.
When teams start scoring on the Magic, it’s hard for them to stop.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Philadelphia is 2-4 ATS in the last six games
- Orlando is 4-13 SU in the last 17 games
Free Philadelphia 76ers vs. Orlando Magic NBA Prediction:
While Philly has regressed recently, playing some poor games, the team has clearly improved thanks to Joel “The Process” Embiid. He’s made everyone around him better and the team has been entertaining to watch.
