Here is my 76ers Knicks free pick. Philly was projected to be among the upper echelon in the East with their four core starters creating matchup problems, but then health postponed their rise. Lately, Embiid and Paul George have been healthy and starting, so perhaps the New Year will find them getting on track.
Per John Schuhmann: Mitchell Robinson had 18 offensive rebounds in 61 minutes last week and continues to have the highest offensive rebounding percentage (23.1%) for any player who’s averaged at least 15 minutes per game in the 30 seasons for which we have play-by-play data.
Simultaneously, the Knicks appeared poised to climb to the top of the conference, but now are dealing with some minor injuries that may delay that rise.
That said, the Knicks perform so much better at home (15-3), but much will depend on whether the bigs can play or not.
Still, the 76ers have the rest advantage and could serve up a trap game. I’ll avoid the lure of going that route and pick the Knicks to win and cover (presuming at least one of the bigs plays).
