Wednesday, November 30th the Philadelphia 76ers face the Cleveland Cavaliers for the first of three meetings this season. Philly will host on February 15th and the Cavaliers will host again on March 15th.
Both clubs completed back-to-back sets on Sunday/Monday. Philly swept their series versus the Magic (133-103) and Hawks (104-101) while the Cavaliers split their set defeating the Pistons (102-94) while losing (88-100) to the Raptors.
All time the 76ers have the advantage of winning 114 of 220 matches versus the Cavaliers. Last season the teams played four times with the 76ers sweeping the season series.
Philadelphia 76ers
Joel Embiid returned to the court on Monday and immediately made an impact although it was his fourth-quarter heroics that had Wells Fargo buzzing.
Embiid missed four games with a foot sprain joining teammates James Harden and Tyrese Maxey on the injured list but in his return, he delivered 30 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and two blocks.
Most impressive were the eight points and key defensive play in the final minute of the match.
This season, the 76ers score an average of 109.4 points per game ranking 24th. Philly shoots 47.5% from the field and 37.5% from the perimeter which ranks ninth and seventh respectively.
Defense is where the 76ers make their mark with the top-ranked opponent scoring allowed of 105.8 points per game and best perimeter defense holding opponents to 31.7% while ranking 15th for opponent field goal percentage (46.6%).
Tyrese Maxey (foot), James Harden (foot), and Jaden Springer (quad) are out indefinitely.

Cleveland Cavaliers
Cleveland faced early adversity when Darius Garland missed six games (five in a row) and is currently without Jarret Allen and Kevin Love but had won four of five.
Then they hit Toronto on a back-to-back and faced a squad who had battled their own adversity with full lineups plus missing in recent weeks but most importantly their top player.
With Pascal Siakam back and despite a close first quarter the game was never close. Toronto shook up their starting rotation because they were bringing back so many players off the injured list.
And whether that was simply a lucky fluke or Nick Nurse’s genius the decision proved devastating for the Cavaliers’ offense as the new rotations excelled particularly on defense.
Cleveland registered season lows in points (88), 3PFG% (18.4%), and 3PM (7). Donovan Mitchell was shadowed by OG Anunoby who held him to eight points (3-11) his lowest point tally and field goal attempts of the year.
Offensively, Cleveland scores 112.9 points per game ranking 14th while shooting 47.5% from the field and 38.0% and perimeter ranking 11th and fourth respectively.
Cleveland allows opponents to score an average of 107.0 points per game (3rd) and limit foes to 45.7% from the field (7th) and 36.6% (22nd) from deep.
Jarrett Allen (back), Kevin Love (thumb), and Lamar Stevens (illness) are questionable. Dylan Windler (ankle) and Ricky Rubio (knee) are out indefinitely.

Free Philadelphia 76ers vs. Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Prediction:
Philly’s defense has ramped up to a different level navigating without the Big 3 but with Embiid back they are better on both sides of the court.
While the Cavs have won 5 of 7 a closer look reveals six of their opponents were either tankers or teams missing stars.
Dialing it back further to their streak of eight wins and five losses the two Celtics overtime wins remain the most impressive, however, the wins/losses are predominantly separated by the same factors above with the losses typically occurring versus the elite squads.
I’ve been on this tangent before – and I’ll go there again. The Cavs are a good team, but I’m still noticing chips in their armor.
Mitchell, Garland, and Mobley garner the majority of the accolades but the reality is Jarrett Allen is their most valuable player and without him, they look closer to a middling team than one that belongs in the upper echelon.
I know Philly is still missing Maxey and Harden, but I’ll trust my gut and take the points (and if Allen is out again I’d take the Sixers SU).
