The Orlando Magic continue their road trip out west on Wednesday November 28th when they visit the Portland Trailblazers. The Magic have dropped 2 of 3 so far on their visit away from the Sunshine State although they did upset the Lakers 108-104 at the Staples Center on Sunday and hung tough in a 110-116 loss to Golden State in a back-to back on Monday.
The Trailblazers enter Wednesday’s game on a 3-game losing streak. That being said, Portland should be better adjusted after recently completing a 6-game road swing and then having to host the Clippers for the Blazers’ 4th game in 6 nights. After two full days off, is Portland ready to start getting back to a climb in the Northwest division standings?
Overall the Magic have played pretty well, sitting in a virtual tie for 2nd place in the Southeast while having the 8th best record in the Eastern Conference. Orlando has dropped 2 of 3 to start this 6-game road trip however. A win on Wednesday vs. Portland would be huge as the Magic could salvage the trip with trips to Phoenix and Miami coming before returning home. Steve Clifford’s team can’t complain about a 4-5 road record however.
A Magic player who has had a good road trip so far is Terrence Ross who is coming off a 28 point outburst off the bench (27:40 played) vs. Golden State. He also had 16 at the Lakers and 18 in Denver. Orlando needs more consistent output from their stars beyond Vucevic if they want to upset Portland on Wednesday however. Aaron Gordon was shut out of the scoring column in nearly 22 minutes of play vs. the Warriors and Evan Fournier has just 20 points total during the three games of this road swing. The Trailblazers have a top 10 defense in opponents field goal % (44.9) so it may be hard for the Orlando backcourt to get going in this one.
The big question in Portland is how long the duo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum can continue to carry nearly the entire offensive load? Granted the dynamic backcourt duo is great but in the last 5 games they’ve combined for 48, 42, 44, 60, and 65 points. In some cases that’s over half of the team’s 112.6 average (11th).
The big problem relying on two players for all your scoring is that when they’re fatigued, there’s not much help.
That can be evidenced by Portland’s recent 8-game stretch in which they scored 100 or less 5 times.
This isn’t entirely a two man team however as C Jusuf Nurkic does have nine double-digit scoring games in his last 10. The 7-footer does have a tough matchup with the Magic’s fellow big man Nikola Vucevic.
The Orlando C comes in off of back-to-back 30+ point, 12+ rebound nights.
Another question is if the Portland defense can stop Vucevic and the Orlando offense that put up back-to-back 130+ point nights 10 days ago? The Trailblazers allowed 143 points to Milwaukee a week ago and 125 the next game vs. Golden State. That being said those games were a) on the road and b) against two of the best offenses in the NBA. When Portland returned home vs. the Clippers they held LA to 5-25 (20%) from three point range although the ‘Blazers did drop their third straight game.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Over is 7-1 in Portland’s last 8 Wed. games
- Trailblazers are 24-8 ATS their last 32 home games
- Over is 7-3 Portland’s last 10 vs. Eastern Conference
Free Orlando Magic vs. Portland Trailblazers NBA Prediction:
What we need to see tonight is if 2 days of rest are enough to give Portland the edge especially with a fresh Lillard and McCollum? Wednesday night will be Orlando’s 3rd road game in 4 nights vs. a Trailblazers team that is top half (15th) in the league in pace.

The Magic have talent, but are tired. Nurkic should neutralize a fatigued Vucevic and Portland’s backcourt dominates once again.
