The national media isn’t going to pay attention to this contest — not with it being a Friday night and the first of nine games on the evening’s slate (including two contests on ESPN). But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any redeeming qualities to this matchup.
One team is coming off a big-time road victory, and the other, while in the midst of a four-game losing streak, has one of the most entertaining young players in the game featured in the middle.

Orlando Magic
The Magic, as awful as they’ve been this season (after new head coach Frank Vogel promised fans at a pre-season open practice that they’d be back in the postseason, none the less), recently took down the always-powerful San Antonio Spurs. On the road, too!
The Magic got the win at AT&T Center 95-83, and while that’s certainly not going to make this season a successful one by itself, it could be enough to give this team both the confidence and momentum it needs to become respectable.

Against Philly, Orlando will see a different level of competition, and not in a “more dangerous” kind of way. Philly has been bad this season to say the least.
Against a bad team, it’s easy to look ahead to the next night assuming you have the edge.
But the Sixers have one player in particular who makes it impossible to win if you go in with that approach: Joel Embiid.
[dfads params=’groups=226&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Stopping Embiid has proven beyond difficult this season. His array of postseason moves and shot-blocking tendencies gives him all the skills of a traditional center, yet his mid-range and three-point shooting epitomizes what teams are looking for in a modern-day big.
But there’s good news if you’re Orlando: It really doesn’t matter how many points Embiid scores, let alone how many plays he makes. Philly has seen all season that he can take over a game but the team will lose because there’s not enough talent surrounding the youngster.
Orlando needs to keep this in mind and not worry too much about what Embiid does. The real blueprint to taking down Philly is keeping the complementary players at neutral.
Philadelphia 76ers
Conversely, Philly must get contributions from its surrounding pieces. Embiid is great, and he’s going to get his numbers.
But this season has proven that the Sixers need other players to step up if they’re going to get any sort of team success to come to fruition.

On the year, Philly is averaging just 97.9 points per game. That’s only good enough for 26th in the league.
Defensively, the Sixers are allowing 107.9 points per night. That’s only good enough for 25th in the Association.
The 76ers have lost four straight, but all four were against potential playoff teams.
This one should be a different story.
