In the initial meetings this season, the Raptors limped into those matches, but in fairness, they weren’t playing at the level they are now.
The hope is that Collin Murray-Boyles will be available for this game after missing several games with a thumb injury. Toronto could use his size to help on the glass.
Protecting the paint will be key as the Raptors hold teams to the eighth-worst scoring, while the Knicks are the fourth-best at defending the rim.
Jalen Brunson gets the tap for the All-Star Game but may still be joined by his co-hort Karl-Anthony Towns. Likewise two Raptors await the news with Scottie Barnes pretty much a lock and Brandon Ingram a possibility.
Where the Raptors could have an edge is scoring on the fast break, where they lead the league with 19.2 points per game. New York ranks 15th in defense of fast break scoring.
This is an important game for Toronto to regain their lead over the Knicks, but equally important to stop the Knicks from winning the season series (read: tiebreaker at season’s end).
Also of note, a win by the Raptors would give them 30 victories this season – – as many as they got all of last year.
To that end, given the Knicks are on a back-to-back and the Raptors are on a roll I’ll take the home town to win and cover the spread.
