Wednesday, December 27 finds Eastern Conference teams the New York Knicks matching up versus the Chicago Bulls. Both squads began the season slowly, but are recognizing success of late.
New York who has been feasting on competition at home lost a rare game at the Garden on Christmas Day to the Sixers.
The Bulls began their post Christmas schedule with a huge win over the Milwaukee Bucks.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Bulls sweeping the Knicks and they’ve won the initial meeting this season. The Bulls also hold the all-time record having bested the Knicks 119 of their 223 matches.
New York Knicks
Kristaps Porzingis returned to play in the Christmas Day game and fuel a brewing rivalry with Joel Embiid.
At game end his 22 points and 7 rebounds weren’t enough to best Embiid’s 25 points and 16 rebounds. His frontcourt mate Enes Kanter laid down a spectacular game of 31 points and 22 rebounds.
Several players who’ve contributed to wins of late had subpar games vs. Philly such as rookie Frank Ntilikina and Michael Beasley. Jarrett Jack and Lance Thomas combined for a measly two points.
Tim Hardaway Jr. remains out dealing with a stress injury to his lower leg with no specified date for return other than sometime in January.
Although Nikola Mirotic’s return to the lineup coincided with the Bulls winning streak the new guys are also factoring into the mix. Specifically rookie Lauri Markkanen leads the team in scoring (14.5) and rebounding (7.6). Moreover, he’s proving to be more than a three point sniper with a versatile offense.
The other newbie making a mark is Kris Dunn who leads the team in assists (5.7) and steals (1.9). During the win streak Dunn came into his own producing seven consecutive double digit efforts averaging 16.5 points and 7.5 assists.
Were the Bulls to continue their progress it’s still a large margin to make up just to get into the postseason. Reflecting back to last season it’s a similar situation to how the Miami Heat started. But, with Zach LaVine scheduled to return in the New Year they still have an opportunity.

Free New York Knicks vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Prediction: Home court rules
The Bulls beat Milwaukee last night and will subsequently have the heavier legs tonight. That said the Knicks aren’t a strong road team having won just 2 of their 12 road games. Home teams automatically get a two or three point edge, so oddsmakers seem to be leaning toward the Knicks.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Bulls +1
A single point is just too tempting to ignore. Regardless of the Bulls playing on a back-to-back I say take the single point and fact Knicks aren’t stellar on the road.
