(4-2) New Orleans Pelicans vs. Portland Trail Blazers (5-2)
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans have lost two consecutive games after an undefeated start and Anthony Davis aggravating his elbow. He’s sat the last two for New Orleans, which has lost two straight to good opponents on the road, in Utah and Denver.
The Pels nearly came back from an eighteen-point deficit at the Pepsi Center but came up just short. They will play in Golden State on Wednesday night before continuing this brutal road trip in Portland, the second night of a back-to-back.
Davis’ injury isn’t considered too serious but he’s clearly bothered right now, or else he’d be playing. It’s not clear whether he’ll be ready for Golden State at this time but that will be importantly, obviously.
If he plays, will he play the second night of the back-to-back? If he doesn’t play in Golden State, will he be ready for this one? The Pelicans won’t win without him.
But with him, New Orleans is in the discussion for the second-best team in the West. The perimeter defense is fairly nasty, led by Jrue Holiday. Darius Miller and E’Twaun Moore can fill it up from deep and Davis is a serious MVP candidate at this stage in his career. The Blazers don’t have anybody to stop him.
Portland Trail Blazers
Portland will come back home for this game after concluding a four-game road trip with a resounding victory in Houston. The Rockets were without James Harden and dropped to just 1–5 on the season.
Portland’s offense was balanced with Jusuf Nurkic, Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum all scoring between nineteen and twenty-two points. Nik Stauskas reached double-digits off the bench.
This will be the first game of a six-game homestand for Portland and the first game against New Orleans since the Pelicans swept them out of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs last season.
The Blazers’ starting small forward from a year ago, Moe Harkless, had knee surgery in the off-season and was ready for the start of the year but he’s experienced some pain this week and missed the last two games. He may again be out for this game.

Free New Orleans Pelicans vs. Portland Trail Blazers NBA Prediction: Portland.
Even if Davis plays, I like Portland because of the “revenge” spot after last season’s sweep. However little a regular season win in November matters, the Blazers will be more motivated. They play great at home in the regular year, too.
