Wednesday, April 28th the New Orleans Pelicans and Denver Nuggets play for the third and final time this season. Each time has won a game this year with the Pelicans taking the initial meeting on March 21st (113-108) and the Nuggets winning on March 26th (113-108).
Last season, the squads played three times with the Pelicans taking two of the three meetings. The Nuggets hold the all-time record having won 35 matches of the 63 played.
New Orleans Pelicans
While the Pelicans are well off the pace to win one of the play-in seeds they haven’t been numerically removed and got a huge win on Monday versus the Clippers to stay in the mix.
The Pelicans trail the current 10th seeded Warriors by four games. Yet, part of the reason why New Orleans can stay optimistic is they still have three games versus the Dubs to play.
Moreover, they’ll also play the current sixth (Mavericks) and eighth (Grizzlies) seeds as part of their closing schedule.
Defeating the Clippers was a massive step in the right direction given LA has been arguably playing the best ball in the association in recent weeks.
And New Orleans didn’t just win they put a smackdown (120-103) on the Clippers. All five Pelicans scored in double-figures led by Zion Williamson’s 23 points.
Eric Bledsoe and Lonzo Ball each scored 18 points, Brandon Ingram added 17 points and Willy Hernangomez offered a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Steven Adams (toe) and James Johnson (adductor) missed the game Monday and could be out Wednesday. Nickeil Alexander-Walker (ankle) and Josh Hart (thumb) are definitely out.
Kudos to the Denver Nuggets who’ve continued to win in spite of losing Jamal Murray and not having Monte Morris or Will Barton available either.
They’ve won six of their last seven games and 14 of the last 17 contests. The most recent victory featured an easy 120-96 rout of the Grizzlies.
Per usual Nikola Jokic did the heavy lifting registering a double-double of 24 points and 15 rebounds. Stepping up Murray’s absence is Michael Porter Jr. who provided the Nuggets top score of 31 points plus seven rebounds.
Aaron Gordon added 15 points while Paul Millsap chipped in with 12 points.
The Nuggets possess a healthy four-game edge over the fifth-place Lakers and are closing in on the Clippers trailing them by two points.
Murray had surgery to repair the torn ACL this week and will be lost for the season. Morris and Barton won’t likely suit up for this match.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The teams are 5-5 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
- The Pelicans are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 3-7 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free New Orleans Pelicans vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction:
Zion is great but the Pels will need Adams if they want to limit Jokic and even then I’m not sure New Orleans has the defensive chops to stop both Jokic and MPJ.
