Saturday, November 4 finds a Western and Eastern Conference foes entering their Third week of play in the 2017-18 regular season for the New Orleans Pelicans and Chicago Bulls. Both teams will be on no rest as they play Friday night.
Last season, the squads played two times with the Bulls sweeping the series. Chicago has won the past six straight meetings as the Bulls hold the all-time record against the Pelicans with a 22-12 record.
New Orleans Pelicans
DeMarcus Cousins has been absolutely terrific this year, averaging 30 points and 13 rebounds to lead all Pelicans. This is still Anthony Davis’ team, of course, but Cousins has been impressive. Unfortunately, the Pelicans haven’t had much team success early in the season.
The Pelicans guard play has been inconsistent, and they sorely need wings. New Orleans E’Twaun Moore has been solid outside shooting, but overall there just needs to be improved play from the Pelicans
As a team, the Pelicans shot 43 percent from the field and just eight of 31 from the 3-point line as they fought back from an 11-point halftime deficit to tie the game at 96-96 with just 2:22 left in the game, but it was the Timberwolves’ Jimmy Butler who delivered down the stretch to steal the game from the Pelicans.
New Orleans ranks tied for 10th in points per game, and fourth in assists. The offense hasn’t been the problem for the Pelicans.
But the defense is shaky. It’s going to be tough for the Pelicans to consistently stop offenses, but they shouldn’t have a problem facing the Bulls offense that has begun the season slowly
Chicago has the worst offense in the league (90 ppg). Rookie Lauri Markkanen has been terrific with averages of 17.2 points and 9.3 rebounds. Kris Dunn (9.5 ppg) will look to provide a spark for the Bulls.
The Chicago Bulls lost 97-91 to the Miami Heat on Wednesday night. The Heat jumped out to a 27-17 lead at the end of the first and they remained in control.
Rookie forward Lauri Markkanen continues to impress with 25 points and eight rebounds. Center Robin Lopez wound up with 22 points on 10-of-17 shooting.
The Bulls outrebounded the Heat 54-48 in the contest. Miami shot 41 percent from the field and Chicago shot 40 percent. Kris Dunn finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Justin Holiday struggled going 3-of-15 from the field for nine points. Chicago committed 12 turnovers and Miami had 11.
