Game 5 of the NBA Finals tips off on Saturday, July 17th with the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks all tied up with two wins each. Through four games the home team has won every contest.
Teams that win Game 5 go on to win the series 82.8 percent of the time.
Milwaukee Bucks
After consecutive 42 and 41 point efforts Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 26 points in his lowest-scoring game since Game 1 but still managed to collect a double-double with 14 boards.
The star also took his fewest free throws in the series with eight after getting to the line 12, 18, and 17 times in the three prior matches. In spite of the Suns’ defense to limit him, Antetokounmpo contributed everywhere adding eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.
The big difference in the series for the Bucks has been the performance of Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton on the road versus at home. Middleton’s contrast is especially stark.
In the two games at Fiserv Forum, he averaged29 points shooting 45 percent from the field and 40 percent from the perimeter with a positive plus/minus of +18.
In Phoenix he averaged nine fewer points (20) shooting 40 percent from the field and 33 percent from deep and most telling was his negative plus/minus of -26.
Holiday has shot the ball worse on the road and scored fewer points (13.5 versus 17) but been as effective defensively and consistently delivered on the glass and playmaking with six rebounds and eight assists regardless of the venue.
Phoenix Suns
Similar to how Middleton has struggled on the road, Chris Paul has witnessed a steady regression in scoring as the series progressed with 32, 23, 19, and 10 points through the four contests.
The veteran point guard committed five turnovers and shot less than 40 percent from the field in Game 4, the first time he’d hit that low mark all season.
Age may be factoring but don’t discount the length of the Bucks and Jrue Holiday’s defense on CP3. While the scoring is a concern the bigger issue is those turnovers.
Paul typically is one of the better point guards at protecting the ball averaging 1.6 turnovers per game through the playoffs prior to this Finals series but has accumulated 17 turnovers versus Milwaukee and 15 of those came in the last three games.
Devin Booker bounced back from a subpar effort to lead Phoenix with 42 points as he feasted in the mid-range and was one of the two starters (Jae Crowder) who was awarded free throws.
In fact, free throw attempts have become a factor for the Suns who held the advantage in Game 1 (26-16). The Bucks have taken between nine and 10 additional free throws per game since with a cumulative advantage of 78 to 49 free throws through the last three matches.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Suns are 7-3 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
- The Suns are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 6-3-1 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free Milwaukee Bucks vs. Phoenix Suns NBA Prediction:
Phoenix was on the verge of taking Game 4 with aggressive defense but got killed on the offensive glass (17 to 5). Although the free throws are imbalanced the main reason Phoenix lost Game 4 was the 17 turnovers that led to 24 points versus a mere five turnovers for five points given up by Milwaukee.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Suns +4
Phoenix lost three games once all season and that was way back in January. Paul and Booker are due for mutually strong games and CP3 in particular will be looking to bounce back from a subpar effort.
