Milwaukee was down big at the half on Friday night against Golden State. It won the third quarter by 16 points and then lost the fourth by just as many to lose at home, 108–94.
Golden State played without Stephen Curry, who continues to rest his troublesome ankle. Kevin Durant had 26 for the winners and Draymond Green poured in 21. Giannis had 23 and Eric Bledsoe 21 for Milwaukee.
The Bucks have followed a win with a loss in eight-straight games. Giannis is great; Bledsoe is good; Middleton is ok; nobody else is better than an average NBA player and as a result, Milwaukee can’t string wins together.
Milwaukee’s depth problem has its fans checking for a Jabari Parker return date every day. It’s giving his whole return the sort of rushed feeling the Bucks’ front office and coaching staff surely wanted to avoid. Paker has been practicing with Milwaukee’s G-League affiliate, but there isn’t a timetable for his return.
Until then, Milwaukee will continue to play Thon Maker like he’s actually going to amount to anything in the NBA and ask Matthew Dellavedova to carry the second unit.
Dion Waiters toughed it out almost half of a season, but his ankle will take him no further. Waiters will have season-ending surgery and prepare for next season, right as Miami is playing its best basketball of the season.
It begs the question if Miami is playing its best basketball of the season because Waiters is out of the rotation. The only answer I can confidently give is that it certainly isn’t the only reason. Waiters does do a lot of damage to his team in between fantastic plays, but Miami is as healthy as its been all season, even without him, and this is a pretty good team Coach Spo has.
The Heat has won six in a row, the last two coming on the road at Toronto and at Indiana. Bam Adebayo, Tyler Johnson and Wayne Ellington scored 15 points each as the only three to come off the bench in the win.
The three came off the bench, but they all played at least 31 minutes. Ellington played 35; he’s now a high-quality NBA player, whether you’ve seen highlights on Sportscenter or not.
