Milwaukee is solidly third in the East, two games behind Philadelphia with Brooklyn in-between, three games ahead of Boston.
The Bucks followed five losses in a row with five consecutive wins. Then they lost by 31 points at home to the Nuggets on Tuesday.
Nikola Jokic had a 37-point triple-double and Jamal Murray scored 24.
Giannis Antetokounmpo had 27 points but the Nuggets did a great job of 1) limiting him on the glass (8 rebounds) and as a playmaker (3 assists) and 2) holding down the rest of the Bucks.
Jrue Holiday played his second straight game after a prolonged absence. He again came off the bench and played just 18 minutes. The Bucks are still working up his minutes and he will surely us the All-Star break to regain his legs.
The Bucks may tinker with their roster before the playoffs but they will surely not make any moves that will significantly move the needle. What they have is what is going to have to take them to the promised land.
It’s early to look ahead to the playoffs but a second round matchup with Brooklyn will would be a test for the defense. Holiday will take Kyrie Irving and Antetokounmpo Durant.
The key may be Donte DiVincenzo and how well he will stand up to James Harden. The third-year is having a fine season but he will have to prove his worth in the playoffs.
The Grizzlies have been on a wild 18-game stretch ever since they returned from a long layoff for coronavirus.
Memphis is 9–9 in the stretch but all eighteen of the games have been decided by at least nine points. Sixteen of them by double-digits.
The most recent result was a 14-point win over Washington, one of the more closely decided games of the stretch.
Ja Morant had 35 points, the most he’s scored since getting 44 in Memphis’ first game of the season. He added 10 assists.
Dillon Brooks had 20. Jonas Valanciunas had a double-double with 16 rebounds. De’Anthony Melton scored 20 off the bench.
Grayson Allen (concussion) and Kyle Anderson (health and safety) did not play. Gorgui Dieng was a healthy scratch.
It’s likely Allen and Anderson will sit this one and come back after the break.
