Wednesday, November 16th the Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors meet for the third of four meetings this season. The teams played a baseball-style set in Miami on October 22nd and 24th. Miami won the initial game 112-109 and Toronto took the second 98-90.
The final game of the series will occur in Toronto on March 28th.
Both teams last played Monday with the Heat edging the Suns 113-112 while the Raptors beat the Pistons 114-111 .
Last season the clubs played four times splitting the season series. All four games were close battles decided by five points or less including a triple-overtime game the Raptors won in Miami. The Heat holds the all-time record with 59 wins in 98 matches versus the Raptors.
Miami Heat
Welcome back to the NBA Bam Adebayo! Where have you been?
Seriously, I just recently went on a rant about Adebayo and how he has paled in comparison to the player of past seasons and hadn’t shown any growth.
I went off on a tangent about how analysts kept citing him as a top 20 player based on his two-way play and how we’d seen no signs of that Bam on display.
While I’m sure he doesn’t read my odds previews, I’m happy to report THAT Adebayo showed up versus the Suns to remind why he was considered in the vein of a top-notch two-way player in the first place.
It was BY FAR his best showing of the season and coupled with a sick block by Jimmy Butler on Devin Booker was the reason Miami beat the shorthanded Suns.
He finished with a double-double of 30 points and 10 rebounds (6 offensive boards) and drilling home how aggressive he was offensively Adebayo got to the line 14 times (made 12).
Bam Adebayo (knee) and Dewayne Dedmon (plantar fasciitis) are questionable while Tyler Herro (ankle) and Victor Oladipo (knee) were downgraded to out Wednesday. Omer Yurtseven is out.
Toronto Raptors
To say the Raptors are limping into this match would be understating just how shorthanded they are. Entering the Pistons match Toronto was missing three starters – Pascal Siakam (groin), Fred VanVleet (illness), and Gary Trent Jr. (hip) plus arguably their top reserve Precious Achiuwa (ankle).
Add Otto Porter Jr, to the list as he exited early in the second quarter. And this is on top of Christian Koloko playing through a hip injury and Scottie Barnes CLEARLY favoring his ankle and also dealing with a sore knee and shoulder.
The only starter who is relatively healthy is OG Anunoby who is drawing the majority of the opponent’s defensive attention. That meant the Raptors others had to step up and with copious Canadians making the trek South of the border to catch the game, it was the two Canucks on the Raptors who led the way.
Dalano Banton scored a career-best 27 points with four rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks while Chris Boucher offered the bench energy adding 20 points. Anunoby (19) and Malachi Flynn (12) were the other double-figure scorers.
Reflecting back to the losses this weekend in OKC and Indy it’s now more understandable why VanVleet and GTJ played so poorly given their health.
Of the injured quintet above, VanVleet (illness) and Trent (hip) are questionable the other three are out.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Heat are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games.
- The Raptors are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 4 of Miami’s last 5 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 6 of Toronto’s last 9 games.
Free Miami Heat vs. Toronto Raptors NBA Prediction:
If Toronto doesn’t get back some players it’s hard to imagine them being remotely competitive against a tough-nosed Heat squad while missing their best two (and five of their top seven) players.
I’m frankly a bit surprised the Heat aren’t favored by a larger spread – but perhaps it’s the uncertainty of VanVleet and GTJ returning.
