On Sunday, April 11th the Miami Heat and Portland Trail Blazers will meet for the second and final time this season. The initial match was held on March 25th with the Blazers winning 125-122.
The Blazers enter following a 118-113 win versus Detroit on Saturday while Miami last played Thursday defeating the Lakers (110-104).
The Blazers hold the all-time record between the clubs with 41 wins in 64 meetings. Last season, the teams played twice splitting the contests.
Miami Heat
While the Lakers have the rings and the banner the Heat at least got revenge this season by sweeping the defending champions.
Granted, neither LeBron James nor Anthony Davis was playing but that didn’t stop them from beating the Nets on Saturday.
Jimmy Butler led the way and made sure to let the Lakers know about it as he was extremely vocal, trash-talking throughout the game. Butler scored 28 points along with seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
Newly acquired Victor Oladipo looked more comfortable scoring 18 points but limped off the court after one of his dunks. The injury report notes Oladipo will miss the next four games because of his knee.
Tyler Herro scored 15 points while Bam Adebayo (13), Duncan Robinson (11), and Goran Dragic (10) were the other double-figure scorers.
The Heat signed Dewayne Dedmon to the roster to add depth up front. Dedmon had to go through the safety protocols and COVID-19 testing but should be available for this match versus the Blazers.
KZ Okpala didn’t play Thursday due to health and safety protocols and is listed as day-to-day.
Portland Trail Blazers
The Blazers had won five of six but lost both games to start the week falling to teams they need to beat (Clippers, Jazz) if they want to move up the West ladder.
They got back on track Saturday with a 118-103 victory versus the Detroit Pistons. Damian Lillard led the way with a double-double of 27 points and 10 assists.
His backcourt partner in crime CJ McCollum was also hot producing 26 points along with four rebounds and three assists.
Enes Kanter however, was the story of the night as he registered a monster double-double of 24 points and thirty rebounds! Carmelo Anthony and Nassir Little each scored 11 points in a reserve role.
Through 42 games with the Raptors, Norman Powell averaged 19.6 points on highly efficient percentages particularly from the perimeter (43.9%). With the Blazers through eight games that’s fallen off to 38% — still good, but a significant drop. He was 2 of 10 on Saturday (1 of 5 from deep) for nine points.
Again, it could simply be about adjustments but Terry Stotts needs to figure out how to keep Powell engaged and get him more shot attempts particularly early in games.

The Heat have the rest advantage and while the Blazers are playing the second game of a back-to-back set they have a solid 7-4 record in those matches. The Heat’s 12th ranked perimeter defense will need to stop the chance sixth-ranked Blazers perimeter offense.
