On Monday, December 5th, the Miami Heat and Memphis Grizzlies face each other for the first of two scheduled matches. Miami will host the second contest on March 15th.
Miami arrives in Memphis riding a high after defeating the Celtics 120-116 in overtime while the Grizzlies are playing a back-to-back set and were leading the Pistons by 12 (69-57) at the half. UPDATE: Memphis won 122-112
Last season the clubs split their two-game regular season series each winning on the road. The Heat holds the all-time record with 28 wins in 51 matches versus the Grizzlies.
Miami Heat
Defeating the Celtics could be a turning point for the Heat but much of the reason behind the success was tied to the return of Jimmy Butler to the lineup.
Miami is a completely different team with their captain back as he bolsters their defense and is a reliable offensive threat that can get buckets in critical moments of the game. The club even exudes a different swagger with Butler available.
While Bam Adebayo led the Heat scoring with 28 points it was Butler who did a bit of everything serving up a double-double of 25 points and 15 rebounds plus three assists, a steal, and a block.
All five Heat starters scored in double figures including Tyler Herro (23), Kyle Lowry (20), and Caleb Martin (10).
Offensively, the Heat score 109.5 points per game (26th rank) shooting 45.2.% from the field (25th) and 33.7% from the perimeter (23rd).
Defensively, the Heat allow opponents to score 110.3 points per game ranking eighth. Miami opponents shoot 47.3% from the field (21st) and 35.5% from the perimeter (14th).
Duncan Robinson (ankle), Haywood Highsmith (ankle) and Max Strus (shoulder) are all probable. Gabe Vincent (knee), Dewayne Dedmon (foot), and Jimmy Butler (knee) are all questionable for Monday. Victor Oladipo (knee), and Omer Yurtseven (ankle) are out indefinitely.
Memphis Grizzlies
At the half, the Grizzlies held a 12-point lead over the Pistons with Dillon Brooks (18) and Jaren Jackson Jr. (16) leading the scoring. Ja Morant was having a quieter night opting to focus on playmaking (7 points, 6 assists).
UPDATE: Morant got rolling in the second half finishing with a double-double of 33 points and 10 assists. One concern perhaps was the bench unit as the Pistons reserves outscored Memphis 55 to 20.
Offensively, the Grizzlies score 115.0 points per game ranking 10th overall. Memphis shoots 46.0% from the field ranking 22nd, and 36.3% from the perimeter ranking 12th.
Defensively, Memphis allow their opponents to score 113.8 points per game (17th). Opponents shoot 46.5% from the field (12th) and 36.2% from deep (20th).
Steven Adams and Jake LaRavia (foot) were doubtful for Sunday and weren’t in the lineup so they’ll likely be questionable for Monday. Ziaire Williams (knee), Desmond Bane (toe), and Danny Green (knee) are out indefinitely.

Free Miami Heat vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Prediction:
The Heat have the rest advantage but the slew of players listed as questionable (including Butler) makes picking them tough.
Therefore, I’ll go with the Grizzlies especially since the core starting group wasn’t overly taxed playing between 35 (Morant) and 30 minutes and given their youth that shouldn’t be a problem.
