After a strange and exciting 12-game winning streak, the Miami Heat have lost the last two games and are looking to get back to those winning ways against the extremely tough Houston Rockets.
Houston, the best 3-point shooting team not named the Warriors, has won four straight and continues to play fantastic basketball. The Rockets will look to take care of the Heat with solid perimeter shooting and aggressive play from James Harden.
After the loss of Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade, most didn’t expect the Heat to win more than 20 games this season.
It was looking like that would be the case up until mid-January. Miami was able to win 12 straight games through some unexpectedly great play from former D-Leaguers and the coming out party for Dion Waiters.
In that 12-game stretch (in which he played 11 of), Dion Waiters averages 20.6 points per game and led his team to some fantastic wins. For the season, Waiters is averaging 15.7 points on 42% shooting and has provided a much needed spark for Miami.
Point guard Goran Dragic has stepped up for this Heat team, as well. He’s averaging 20.3 points on 48.4% shooting and he’s also contributing 6.3 assists per game.
Dragic, also known as The Dragon, has been an important part of a Miami Heat team that doesn’t have much depth at the guard position since Justise Winslow underwent season-ending surgery back in January.
A month ago, this team didn’t look like it would even sniff the playoffs. Now, with the way guys are stepping up, who knows?
Averaging over 114 points per game, the Houston Rockets are 2nd best in the league in scoring the ball. The Rockets have a fantastic perimeter shooting game, one that sees the team take an average of 39 3-pointers per night.
Led by an aggressive and fantastic James Harden, the Rockets are a dangerous team and should make a deep run into the playoffs this season.
Speaking of Harden, he’s averaging a double-double with 29.1 points and 11.3 assists per game. He also shoots a pretty decent 44.4% from the field, while shooting 35% from behind the arc.
Eric Gordon has been an important member of this team and is a prime candidate for Sixth Man of the Year. He’s averaging 17.3 points and shoots just under 39% from three.
Defensively, the team leaves much to be desired.
The Rockets give up 108 points per game, putting the team 24th in the league. But when the offense is rolling, the defense doesn’t have to hold teams to under 100 to win.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Miami is 5-2 ATS in the last seven games
- The Total has gone OVER in four of Houston’s last five games
Free Miami Heat vs. Houston Rockets NBA Prediction:
It’s too tough to stop a team like the Rockets, as long as the perimeter shots are falling. Miami isn’t a great defensive team and Houston should overwhelm them with the offense. Houston gets the W at home.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Houston -9
If Houston gets the three-ball going, the team is hard to keep up with. I like Houston to cover the spread here considering Miami isn’t great at defending the perimeter.
